Double blinded RCT using allogenic FMT from lean vegan donors for individuals with hepatic steatosis, Clear effect on intestinal microbiota, but only a trend for improvement of necro‐inflammatory liver histology (underpowered). @fmtarticles @SmitsLab

You can check the entire program here (link below). My personal scientific highlight is the session
"Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT): Where do we stand in 2020?" on October 11 at 9am with notably @gianluca1aniro and @bhmullish

It is known that #FMT is effective at treating C. diff infections of the gut, but why? New research shows that FMT restores bacteria to the gut that affects the composition of bile & stops C. diff spores in their tracks. Watch the video abstract imperial.ac.uk/news/194108/p… @bhmullish

Thanks for asking Abby, tachycardia may be physiological, to compensate for a low blood volume, or an adrenergic response to an external stimulus. But it can also be due to primary pathologies of the heart, such as ventricular tachycardia, or accessory pathways.

Request for help after uBiome bankruptcy and discontinuation of their (great) academic grant program:
PI in Argentina with cohort of 400 control/obese/diabetes patients needs microbiome sequencing partner. Could be great collaboration/paper on understudied South America cohort.

Intriguing idea. SCFAs per se have been disappointing in IBD trials so far. We do need to think about combination treatments to properly position FMT in the "age of biologics" though. Good point.

This partly reflects confusion about best practice and regulatory complexities. This recent international consensus, now in @Gut_BMJ, is a start towards standardisation gut.bmj.com/content/early/20… #fgdebate

are there many studies looking at the mechanistics of how FMT works #fgdebate @NabilQuraishi @TariqFMT

C diff is the only indication where there is a role for one-off FMT. For others, studies vary with: a) number of FMTs, b) interval between FMTs. Is there such a thing as a microbiota turnover time? What have you chosen for STOP-Colitis and how have you based these? #fgdebate

Yeah probiotics haven't yet demonstrated the success that was expected. Several reasons - IBD does not fulfil Koch's postulates and its unlikely that 'untargeted' consortia will help. Also quantity / viability of bacteria and its behaviour in a the host all matter. #fgdebate

4 RCTs published so far. 3 out of 4 reached primary endpoint. Mechanistics limited at present but clear and encouraging clinical signal. Watch out for STOP-COLITIS

Several - to mention a few: antibiotics, probiotics, prebiotics, FMT and other targeted biotherapeutic approaches (such as phages). Evidence for each depends on disease. #fgdebate
