Every Liverpool fan should read this
As Leeds started passing and moving with the ball on high intensity, our press crumbled and we became highly disorganized
The triggers stopped working and we were jumping recklessly into tackles
Leeds exposed Iraola in the 2nd half
It is clear after Liverpool's game against Sunderland that Iraola will have the exact same approach as he did at Bournemouth. Despite the significant improvement we will see in pressing intensity compared to Slot, I think Liverpool are going to struggle defensively unless we see some adaptations from Iraola.
The first concern I have is how fixed he is on a zonal press. The approach is has similarities in idea to Slot's, despite what people might think, although Iraola is significantly better at coaching the intensity. It works very well when the opposition are more positionally fixed with less mobility, as you can plan hand-offs and jumps, mainly through the -1 player, in a choreographed manner based on the opposition's structure. However, when the opposition are more mobile and less positionally fixed, it causes much more confusion because the jumps cannot be choreographed. In these moments, a team has to be patient and sit zonally, something that Arsenal do incredibly well, but Iraola's teams look to trigger the press much more frequently. Confusion in these jumps usually leads to gaps between the midfield and defence, something the likes of Ten Hag and Slot became infamous for. It is actually one of the main reasons why man-to-man approaches have become dominant in elite football.
The biggest concern I have is the rest defence. Iraola sets up with wide full-backs who are free to commit high and usually end up in a 2-2-6 or even a 2-1-7 when the 8 joins the attack. It is very important to note that these rest-defence issues have not been exposed as frequently as they potentially could have been at Bournemouth, since they did not spend huge periods in settled possession. At Liverpool, opponents will defend deeper, and Liverpool will spend much longer sustaining attacks in the opposition half. As a result, the rest-defence structure becomes much more important. The intriguing part is that this issue cannot be solved without Iraola completely changing his ideas. The mobility and dynamism afforded to his players, which make Iraola's teams so devastating when attacking large spaces, are essentially what make his rest defence exposed. Putting in a more rigid, compact rest-defence structure would also have a major impact on the ideas with the ball. That is why I don't expect anything to change in this regard.
This is not to say Iraola cannot succeed at Liverpool. There is still a long way to go, and coaches adapt. However, if we continue to see the exact same Iraola as we did at Bournemouth, I struggle to see how Liverpool consistently competes for the league with him.

How did Slot make our players look bad?
Salah has his best career season under Slot
Gravenberch has his best career season under Slot
Gakpo had his best ever season under Slot
Luis Diaz before he left had his best season under Slot
Szoboslai had his best season under Slot
Don’t just make noise, reply false if this is false claim @PlantationNoise
Replying to @Parisdreams_emp
My problem is the comparison when Slot made all those players look bad. Trey came from Nowhere he is now our best player after a few games. Grav, Gakpo, Mac were playing bad in Slot time and they played week in week out. Maybe that is where all those complaints came from
I love this a lot
Slot was right 100%
But some Liverpool idiots didn’t see it
Slot: Calvin Ramsay is not good enough- Liverpool fans “play him, Play him”
AI - ships him out - Liverpool fans 🤐
Slot: “Chiesa is unable to play games, he is always injured” - Liverpool fans: “You liar, you hate him, he is okay, Play him now, he is your saviour”
AI - Doesn’t even play him - Liverpool fans 🤐
Slot: “Endo can help at CB but in the Midfield we have others who are better” - Liverpool fans: “Why does this man hate Endo like this”
AI - Doesn’t even have Endo in the team - Liverpool fans 🤐
Slot: Szoboslai can help us a lot better at Right Back than in the midfield - Liverpool fans “Why is this bald fraud wasting our best Midfielder at Right Back”
AI plays Dom in the midfield - Liverpool fans “We play badly with Dom in the middle”
Slot: Elliot not good enough to play more for Liverpool - Liverpool fans: “He loves this club, play him”
AI loans Elliot out - Liverpool fans 🤐
Slot: Sends Tsimikas out on loan - Liverpool fans: “Tsimikas was so good, why did he even send him on loan”
AI plays Tsimikas - Liverpool fans: “He is not a Liverpool standard of player.”
Please don’t kill me 😅
This is progressive positional football I keep talking about
Notice PSG players were not forcing long balls for the sake of it
This is where there midfielders come into the scene
But
If it was Iraola, we would have lost the ball 10 times in this duration because his idea is constant verticality
And Liverpool fans will end up blaming our four Fantastic midfielders for it
Iraola can have coach this kind of play and that’s why he’s not elite

There is no difference between slot and Iraola. Zero difference. No changes whatsoever from last season
Liverpool fans are blaming the players instead of blaming this mid table coach with his mid table ideas
How can 4 Brilliant midfielders be that bad..
It’s not possible unless the coach employs a shitty system
Wirtz, szobo, macca, gravenberch are all brilliant midfielders
If they’re not working
Hold the man in the picture not the players
If it was slot
We won’t hear the end of it
10 goals conceded in 3 games against the likes of lask, Villarreal and fenerbache. What would happen when we go to the next round?. This is obviously not good enough! This fanbase were demanding silly standards last year but suddenly have lowered their supposed new found standards.

Iraola sexuals want you to believe that a German freak talent, Hungarian Rolls Royce, Argentina’s midfield rock and Dutch Gullit are all bad players
None of them want to face the question of why a very good crop of talented midfielders are performing soo bad
Let me give you a hint of what the problem is :
Iraola’s lack of control and basic positional ideas
Watch Liverpool fans who don’t understand the game begin to insult the players
We have one of the best first 11s in the world bar fullbacks yet we can’t string passes together
We can’t attack with intelligent patterns
Always going long and vertical..
Running like headless chickens and loosing the ball constantly.
No control mechanisms to the chaos
Iraola is not cut out for a big team yet
He should have gone to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer
I told you all this

I will say it, Iraola is a useless possession manager. The small team coach allegations are true
Let me say it again
We have to start holding Iraola accountable
The reason why most times our players don’t perform is his frantic style
We can’t control games through basic build up and positional ideas
We’re always booting it and going direct
That can’t be the plan for this season
It’s atrocious
Macca Nyoni wirtz is a disaster waiting to happen against Arsenal if that’s the preferred midfield combo
Too light, no legs
Gravenberch had a bad game today but it happens
It doesn’t help when he had McConnell in 10 and Koumas on the wing
There is a reason why both Gakpo and grav didn’t play well today
Iraola dealt them bad hands with those awful players in important positions
Nyoni shined and was visible in the game
Because he was deepest of the midfielders, receiving the ball from the goalkeeper and defence
Imagine Nyoni pressing in a 10 or 8
You all will call for his head too
Liverpool fans will not blame Iraola for not having build up patterns or basic positional ideas to help maintain control and progress the ball on the pitch
Part of the reason wirtz has struggled is because Liverpool don’t dominate the ball
It’s always hectic
And against a passive team like Chelsea today, we couldn’t even maintain control or build up well
Always going long
Iraola has to be called out..
Basic positional ideas and build up patterns are not crime in football
A lot of Liverpool fans will start blaming gravenberch
Typical idiots
Yes, he didn’t have a good game
But what can he do as the advance 8 with Koumas on the right and McConnell in the 10
Also, why can’t Iraola coach decent build up patterns
Why must we always go long
Chelsea were not even pressing that much
It’s soo annoying
Iraola’s lack of basic positional play ideas will make us go trophyless
