UPDATE: The situation aboard Flydubai FZ1073 was apparently even more violent than initially reported.
Reuters confirms that the two pilots physically fought, while a passenger described hearing screams and witnessing a violent struggle involving a knife.
“We heard screams, the plane suddenly started to descend rapidly, and there was blood in the cockpit.” One of the pilots was stabbed during a fight in the cockpit.
A passenger on a Flydubai flight that made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia told Channel 12 about what happened on board.
We heard screams. Then the door to the cockpit opened, and we saw blood. Someone stabbed the pilot with a folding knife.”
Another passenger, who identified herself as Noam, told the television station by phone: “There were screams on board – the passengers started shouting because they understood what was happening. As far as we understand, one of the pilots was stabbed and seriously injured, after which they lost control of the plane. It started to descend very quickly. It was very scary.”
🇦🇪🇮🇱🚨 Developing: Security incident aboard Dubai–Tel Aviv flight
A flydubai passenger aircraft carrying approximately 100 Israelis has triggered a major security response after transmitting emergency codes while flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv, according to Israeli media.
Flight FZ1073 initially transmitted 7700 (general emergency) with reports that it subsequently transmitted 7500, the code for unlawful interference/hijacking.
Israeli media report that communications with the aircraft were lost and that Israeli Air Force jets were dispatched to intercept it.
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 changed course over Saudi Arabia and has reportedly begun heading toward Israel, although reports say it has not been cleared to land at Ben Gurion Airport.
The circumstances onboard remain unclear.

The Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. officials have linked high resolution satellite imagery obtained by Iran from Chinese entities to the July 17 Iranian missile strike on Muwaffaq al Salti Air Base in Jordan that killed three U.S. troops and wounded several others. The below video from Muwaffaq al Salti Air Base first surfaced within hours of the attack.
The officials did not identify the Chinese entities or allege that the Chinese government was directly involved. They say Iran obtained imagery both before and after the attack, and that the finding is the clearest evidence so far of Chinese support having lethal consequences for U.S. forces. China has rejected the allegations and demanded proof.
The report also says that U.S. officials are also concerned Chinese assistance could be helping Iran track American naval forces. That concern comes as Iran's ability to target moving U.S. warships has appeared to improve during recent attacks.
The Trump administration has previously sanctioned Chinese satellite companies over imagery it said could be used to target U.S. forces. The latest finding comes ahead of a planned Sept. 24 meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
