America’s #EV numbers are miserable. Trump owns the decision to make them worse. These figures are battery electric vehicles only, excluding plug-in hybrids. They show the share of new sales. Emerging markets are racing ahead while America sits at 6.8%. Trump has made obstructing the transition government policy: attacking EV standards, targeting charging investment and ending purchase incentives. Trying to shelter a declining combustion business comes at the expense of America’s next generation of industries. To me, that retreat is a commercial gift to China. Chinese manufacturers are building scale, expanding overseas and supplying affordable electric transport across the Global South. Here in Australia, we are beneficiaries too, with growing choice and competition. America’s obstruction cannot stop that transition. It gives competitors more room to establish themselves. But for the first time in three years, I think we can finally lift some of the doom and gloom about America. Voters have delivered a scathing verdict. Democrats have won both chambers of Congress. Trump is a lame duck with a very big congressional muzzle coming in January. He retains executive powers and a veto, but his congressional free ride is finished. My reading of this result is clear: Americans want relief from punishing living costs, expensive energy and endless conflict. They deserve cheaper goods, including affordable EVs, and leadership focused on making everyday life better. Now the governors, senators and representatives who understand the global transition have a bigger platform and an urgent job: turn that opportunity into lower bills, investment and productive industries. That means EVs, electric trucks, solar, wind and battery storage. It means lithium, rare earth processing and domestic manufacturing. It means building the affordable electricity supply that new industry and AI infrastructure will need. America has the brains, resources, capital and industrial capability. Give those strengths a government prepared to help them build, and the comeback could be extraordinary. Think back to 2020. Now imagine what a stronger, more determined push could deliver by 2028–2030. I haven’t felt this kind of political hope for America since then. Hope is alive again. Watch America roar.

If you'd told me 20 years ago that my two favourite US Senate candidates in 2026 would be a Muslim and a Christian preacher, I'd have called you insane. Yet here I am, a lifelong atheist, absolutely loving Abdul El-Sayed and James Talarico. They represent everything Trump, Vance, Musk and their grotesque circus of self-serving grifters don't: intelligence, compassion, humility, integrity and genuine concern for humanity. After years of watching America dragged through the sewer by narcissists, billionaires, religious hypocrites and shameless opportunists, these two feel like an antidote to the relentless idiocracy. They remind me that character matters more than religion, that decency isn't weakness, and that intelligence doesn't have to come wrapped in arrogance. America doesn't need another billionaire messiah, another manufactured culture war or another politician selling hatred to the highest bidder. It needs decent human beings with functioning brains, moral courage and the backbone to stand up for ordinary people. These two give me something I haven't felt about American politics in a very long time. Genuine hope.

If you think #China only started winning today, think again. It’s been winning ever since Trump 1.0. When he made USA an oil exporter, China filled up its SPR for cheap. When he trashed trade agreements worldwide, China filled the void. When he cancelled EVs, China became world export leader. When he started the Iran War, China showed the world a better way ahead of peace. Today’s election result was a long overdue comeuppance of MAGA hubris, domestic ICE abuse, and global inflation triggered by those whose wallets won’t ever feel its pinch. China just continues to win *more*.

So the biggest winner? China. A distracted Washington, mounting obstacles to US AI expansion and allies increasingly looking elsewhere are good news for Beijing 4/5

Zelenskyy: “Trump Is Demanding That I Surrender to Putin” Finally, the moment has come when we can stop pretending to be diplomatically polite, carefully choosing our words, and acting as though we are dealing with some sophisticated peace negotiations rather than the blatant coercion of a victim into surrender. For the first time, Zelenskyy has said out loud what many have long suspected: according to him, the Trump administration is taking steps that are forcing Ukraine to surrender to Russia. “I don't want to think that our American partners believe it is possible to end the war faster at Ukraine's expense. But that is exactly what it looks like.” Trump is demanding capitulation! Pay attention to that last sentence. No hysteria, no diplomatic scandal, not even an accusation. Just a statement of fact from a man who has spent far too long trying to convince himself that his ally really is an ally. And indeed, a rather interesting picture is emerging. Russia bombs Ukrainian cities, while Washington demands that Kyiv stop striking Russian oil refineries. Ukraine purchases American missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, but according to Zelenskyy, deliveries are being delayed. Restrictions on satellite communications are emerging, making it significantly more difficult for Ukrainian troops to conduct military operations. And all of this is accompanied by endless talk about peace. What kind of peace, gentlemen? Imagine a robber breaking into your home, murdering your loved ones, setting your bedroom on fire, and then a police officer arriving at the scene. But instead of arresting the criminal, the officer demands that you immediately put down your gun because the shooting is disturbing the neighbors' sleep. And, as a friendly gesture, he promises to help the robber get more gasoline. That, in my opinion, is exactly what American diplomacy looks like today. Trump loves to repeat that he wants to stop the bloodshed. A wonderful desire. Yet somehow, almost all his demands are directed at the country defending itself, while the man who unleashed the largest European war of our time is offered negotiations, economic concessions, and yet another opportunity to bargain. There is one inconvenient detail for Trump here. Zelenskyy cannot sign Ukraine's capitulation for the simple reason that Ukraine does not belong to him. It is not a hotel that can be sold together with its guests, nor a golf course that can be handed over to creditors to settle debts. Behind this country stand millions of people who have buried their loved ones, lost their homes, endured occupation, torture, and Russian prisons. Trump can put as much pressure on Zelenskyy as he wants. But forcing Ukrainians to voluntarily recognize Russia's right to determine their fate is an entirely different matter. The most disgusting part of this story is not even the pressure on Ukraine itself, but the attempt to present capitulation as a great humanitarian achievement for which humanity should thank the American president. Putin demands Ukrainian land. Trump demands peace. And Ukrainians are expected to pay the price for both demands. You know, history has seen deals like this before. They were usually signed by people who were absolutely convinced that someone else would have to pay the price. And every single time, there was some solemn gentleman announcing that he had finally brought peace to Europe. The only difference is that this time, Ukraine is still holding its weapons. And it has no intention of laying them down. © Valeriy Bochkov
