As part of our literacy initiative, we are starting book clubs! The @fssdFMS "Grown-Up Book Club" will 1) build community among our peers 2) promote literacy 3) read middle grade books in our library that discuss topics our students deal with.
Join us this month as we read The Canyon's Edge by @DustiBowling! #FreedomReads
The @fssdFMS All-In Read looks a little different this year, but it's still about reading a good book! This year, students choose their own books and challenge themselves to read, read, read! Join us. Take the challenge. What will you read? 📚

Assignment: Select a person who showed resiliency. Research that person. Design a book cover and compose 3 poems about your person in the style of @kwamealexander The Crossover. My students rocked this as a part of @fssdFMSLiteracy All in Book Read.
So many great activities have come from our All-In Read of The Crossover. This week we've had dress up days & a virtual Family Trivia Night! Families received a bag of tasty, book themed snacks to enjoy during the game. We had big fun! #FreedomReads
We wind down tomorrow w/ the American Heart Challenge, a closing message from @kwamealexander & a kindness project. S/O to Mrs. Goode's STAR Art class for designing these beautiful cards! We know the Heart Heroes we send them to will love them. #KindnessProject
Today, we asked students in Ms. Conerly's classes to share some thoughts & feelings about The Crossover by @kwamealexander. One comment: "The whole book was great & almost made me tear up. Is this story true or just made up? I can't imagine what JB & Josh were going through...
But I'm sure they got through it. But I love this story & will be reading it again." ❤️ #FreedomReads
Students in Mrs. Goode's STAR Art Class have been illustrating their favorite poems from our All-In Read of The Crossover by @kwamealexander. Here are just a couple. ALL are phenomenal and will soon be matted & displayed for @fssdFMS to enjoy! #FreedomReads

@kwamealexander as a part of our @fssdFMSLiteracy All School Read, one of my students asked "what style of poem or type of poem is on pg159?
It makes sense if you read it left to right and each column separately top to bottom." #freedomreads #askanexpert
Look at this amazing swag- including game tix 🤯 donated by @TSU_Tigers @LipscombBisons @LadyVol_Hoops & @vucommodores! Thank you so much for supporting our literacy initiative & sharing your school spirit for the @fssdFMS All-In Read of The Crossover by @kwamealexander!

I love the idea of my kiddo’s entire school reading a book together and fostering a love of literature that “crosses over” to all their classes, not just English/ELA. 📚❤️#seewhatididthere 😉 I look forward to the conversations at home that will follow.
