Dealing with banks is the worst part of building a business, all the way from 0 to 1. At 0: “Hello, can I please please please become your customer? 🙏” At 1: You finally have good liquidity but get trash interest rates and need to play treasurer bouncing money between different banks (again, more paperwork)

I didn't know how much I hated buttons & "modern" UI until I got used to seeing 6.1 Sol Fast speed-click through boring interfaces. When you think about it, life is full of buttons, and it sucks. People talk about the true stickiness of products like Muse, Grok Bot & Instinct. I say this: don't underestimate how much people hate buttons. Soon enough, being a button-clicking professional without a clicking agent will seem like an engineer without a coding agent.

Want to sound smart? > be a pessimist Want to sound dumb? > be an optimist but why is this? because pessimism involves prediction, and prediction sounds smart. A prediction about some (bad) chain of events that you believe in, and smart people often think they can predict the future. (pessimism without prediction just makes you sound like a boring cynic ) optimism doesn't require prediction: just belief that we can solve problems. "I don't know how, but I'm pretty sure we can" doesn't sound convincing or smart to most people. But it's usually true.

the movie theatre version: Want to sound smart? say they move was bad. Sounds smart and people won't question it. Want to risk sounding dumb? Say it the movie was fantastic. People will ask you why? This can be hard to explain.

write down every reason your business might fail └ rank them by catastrophic impact └ do your best do avoid those things

a business I wish someone built: a DNA test but only for quirky traits like - how fast do you metabolize coffee? (CYP1A2 & ADORA2A) - Does cilantro taste like soap to you? (OR6A2) - Stinky pee after asparagus (OR2M7) - Do you hate brussels sprouts and broccoli? (TAS2R38) - Morning vs. evening person? (PER2, PER3) - Red hair and pain-tolerance (MC1R) - Sprint vs endurance muscle (ACTN3) Nothing about depressing genes on how likely I am to die. Just the fun stuff. Give you the raw data file so you can feed it to your AI of choice. Work with 3rd party labs, no CAPEX. The hard work is name, brand, marketing, customer experience, pricing. Probably doable at €150-200?

+ discount for couples who can see how likely they are to get a cilantro-hating, energy drink-loving baby

Business ideas be like baby birds. Most die & all die without loving care. If you don't know their parents you have no idea if they'll grow up to become a tame hen or a badass vulture.

Launching a b2c service feels like fishing in the Pacific Ocean from a small boat ... you have no idea what you're doing in the beginning and at any point it feels like you can fall off the boat and die. Or run out of fuel and die anyway... all this while you see huge fishing boats in the distance with a bigs crews and amazing yields.. but you must keep going, because otherwise you die.

The main difference between e.g. Stockholm and SF right now is not technical capabilities or ambition levels It's aggressivity We're not aggressive enough in Europe (and the Nordics) Instinct is a prime example The European mind can't comprehend that a startup started by a young technical solo founder can go from zero to $30B valuation in under a year The company raised it's inception round early this year led by Conviction, then did a couple months ago a $1B round on a $10B valuation with Sequoia and Benchmark on a $10B valuation, and now reportedly raising again at a $30B valuation From the previous $1B round, 60% of the capital ($600M) reportedly went to compute to serve free users, as the founder refuses to make users pay yet, because it's landgrab moment Yes, things might go to hell, that's venture And I'm not saying we need to exactly replicate Instinct in the Nordics and Europe But goddammit we need to become more aggressive, especially when it comes to distribution Rant out
Instinct is currently raising @ $30b. $100M → $500M → $2.5B → $10B → ~$30B in sub 1y. If you're still not inside the private market this should be a good signal to pivot aggressively. Wealth creation is going to be heavily skewed toward private investors over the coming decade.

The Ottoman Empire limited the dissemination of printed books, fearing religious & political upheaval. Consequently, it missed out on the Enlightenment & lost its dominant status in science, technology, & ultimately lost its economic and military influence.

In 2033 it will seem utterly baffling how a bunch of tech folks lost their minds over text generators in 2023 -- like reading about Eliza or Minsky's 1970 quote about achieving human-level general intelligence by 1975

Let me be blunt. Those who are afraid of AI feel deep down that they are impostors & have no edge. If you have a 1) clear mind, 2) a deep, not just cosmetic, undertanding of your specialty, 3) and/or are original enough to reinvent yourself when needed, AI will be your friend.

It’s quite hilarious to watch the AI / AGI hysteria unfold. I’m watching people being AI-splained by all sorts of self appointed experts. Current AI is not emergent, autonomous, or novel. It is however a fantastic tool that has aggregated a lot of human knowledge.
