The only software that will matter in the future is the software with an opinion. AI will make functionality incredibly cheap. Anyone will be able to build another app, replicate another feature, or generate another interface within minutes. The only thing that remains is taste, philosophy, and conviction. Opinionated software is built on deliberate choices, by a team with strong principles and the freedom to disappoint some people to serve others exceptionally well. As the cost of building software approaches zero, the value of deciding *what* deserves to exist will only increase.

This is fundamentally why we run a profitable business. Because as long as we're profitable, we can sustain. And when you sustain, you have more opportunities for these magic moments. I've found no better way to bump into more magic than to simply be available for it. There's nothing better than that moment of insight, of catching a glint, of seeing a meh transform into an oh wow, we're on to something.
This conversation with @RickRubin is special. Here's a 2 minute preview that I’ve watched 15 times. The episode will be out tomorrow:

Pendant des décennies, coder ressemblait au latin de l’Église : une langue rare, gardée par une caste. L’IA joue le rôle de l’imprimerie. Ce que Gutenberg a fait aux Écritures en 150 ans, l’IA le fait au software en 18 mois. Si l’élite panique, c’est pour la même raison que le clergé hier : elle a peur de perdre son monopole sur le texte sacré.
Marc Andreessen: Software isn't precious anymore. In this new world, high quality software is infinitely available. "We've always lived in a world in which software is this precious thing that you have to think about very carefully." "It was really hard to generate good software, and there was only a small number of people who could do it." "Those days are just over." "If you need new software to do X, Y, or Z, you're just going to wave your hand and get it." "Things that used to be hard, or even seem like an insurmountable mountain to get through, all of a sudden, I think, become very easy." @pmarca with @latentspacepod

Today I'm releasing my entire newsletter archive (350+ posts) and all podcast transcripts (300+ episodes) as AI-friendly Markdown files. Plus an MCP server and GitHub repo. A few months ago I shared my podcast transcripts on a whim, and y'all built the most amazing things—an RPG game, a parenting wisdom site, infographics, a Twitter bot, and 50+ other projects. Let's see what happens when I give you even more data. Grab the data here: LennysData.com. Paid subscribers get all of the data (some 350 posts and 300 transcripts). Free subscribers get a subset. I don’t think anyone’s ever done anything like this before, and I’m excited to give you this excuse to play with that AI tool you've been meaning to try. Here’s my challenge to you: build something, and let me know about it. I’ll pick my favorite and give you a free 1-year subscription to the newsletter. Just post a link to your project in the comments here: lennysnewsletter.com/p/how-i…. If you’ve already built something, slurp in this new data and submit it, too. I’ll pick a winner on April 15th. Check out today's newsletter post for inspiration on what you could to build: lennysnewsletter.com/p/how-i… LFG.

PMs don’t just ship features. They kill them. Shipping isn’t the job. Shipping the right product is. A great PM doesn’t fall in love with the roadmap. They fall in love with the problem and have the guts to say: This isn’t solving it. This adds complexity. This doesn’t matter. Every feature, setting, UI, element should fight to exist. At Nest, we had one rule: If you can’t explain why it matters, it doesn’t ship. You had to tell us the why. The reason a real person would care. That one rule killed dozens of features.

how to use obsidian + claude code to build a 24/7 personal operating system and build your startup: 1. write everything in markdown (daily notes, projects, beliefs, people, meetings) 2. link your notes together so they mirror how your brain actually thinks. 3. install obsidian cli so claude code can read your entire vault + the relationships. 4. stop reexplaining projects every session. use reference files instead. 5. build custom slash commands: /context → load your full life + work state /trace → see how an idea evolved over months /connect → bridge two domains you’ve been circling /ideas → generate startup ideas from your vault /graduate → promote daily thoughts into real assets 6. keep a strict rule: human writes the vault. agents read it, suggest, execute. 7. let claude aka clode surface patterns you’ve been unconsciously circling for years. 8. delegate from inside your notes. one sentence in obsidian → agent handles the rest. 9. treat writing as leverage.the more you write, the more context your agents have. 10. understand this:markdown files are the oxygen of llms. i really enjoyed seeing how to use obsidian thanks to @internetvin vin uses ai like a thinking partner wired into his life’s work. 99.99% of people won’t do this because it requires reflection + setup. but once the vault exists, the agent stops being generic. it starts thinking in your voice. episode is live on @startupideaspod (more there) this one is different. send this tweet to a friend. im still processing how game changer obsidian + claude code is, maybe you too watch

Honestly can’t stop thinking about this study. Dancing is *dramatically* more effective than our best attempts at treating depression, pharmaceutical or not. It clearly has *massive* psychological benefits. But how often do you dance? Do you ever do it sober? Did your therapist recommend dancing? Are you on SSRIs but never dancing? If this replicates and is taken seriously it’s potentially life changing for so many people. I gotta dance more.
They buried the lede on this new study. It's not that exercise beats out SSRIs for depression treatment, but that *just* dancing has the largest effect of *any treatment* for depression. That's kind of beautiful.
