It is a pleasure to welcome UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, @JReynoldsMP and his delegation to India. We co-chaired the 16th meeting of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) to advance our shared trade and economic priorities. Emphasised the importance of effectively using the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), addressing trade barriers, and strengthening business-to-business engagement to translate the agreement's opportunities into tangible outcomes. Reaffirmed our commitment to deepening India–UK economic cooperation through sustained engagement, stronger institutional mechanisms, and enhanced collaboration, unlocking new opportunities for businesses in both countries. 🇮🇳🇬🇧

Been waiting to see if the UK would ever do this or not (benefits and drawbacks) When the EU did it, Beijing ordered automotive investment paused in member states who voted for EV tariffs NB US won’t be mad about this either
Exclusive: Britain is preparing to follow the EU and impose import taxes on Chinese electric cars in a move that will push up prices on the forecourt but protect UK manufacturers The government is drawing up a package of potential tariffs to be imposed on Chinese car imports amid concerns that Beijing is “dumping” state-subsidised vehicles into the UK The new import charges have been a key demand from Brussels, which is concerned that Britain has become a backdoor for Chinese exports into the wider European market The EU has made clear to ministers that the UK must put tariffs on Chinese vehicles or face being cut out from the “Made in Europe” scheme, which would make exports by British carmakers to their largest markets uncompetitive Britain’s participation in Made in Europe has been a sticking point before the UK-EU summit between Andy Burnham and the bloc’s leaders next month Nearly a quarter of cars sold in the UK this September were Chinese models. They now account for five of the top 25 brands. The Jaecoo 7 sold nearly 11,000 vehicles and was the top monthly seller for a Chinese marque The UK has been an outlier in choosing not to impose import taxes on Chinese vehicles. The US has shut them out almost entirely and the EU imposed duties of up to 45 per cent in 2024 There have been particular concerns about Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which has a large market in China and would potentially be subject to retaliatory levies However, the government believes t the “balance has shifted” given the potential economic impact of the Made in Europe scheme thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

President Trump and I had a meeting where we discussed general matters. After that, our negotiating teams held a separate, long meeting. The agreement is as follows: we will brief the European side and discuss these details with them; the Americans will speak with the Russians; and in ten days, we will come back with views and results in some shape or form. As for a trilateral Ukraine-U.S.-Russia meeting, the American side proposed preparing it and meeting at the technical level. We are waiting for the United States to propose a date. The United States proposed the United Arab Emirates as the venue for such a meeting. There are concrete agreements regarding Patriot licenses. At our meeting, President Trump stressed that he had made his final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles. From answers to journalists’ questions. (1/3)
