So tragic that the daughter of Nkrumah doesn’t seem to understand that Ukrainians are fighting for their independence from an empire in exactly the same way that her dad fought for independence for Ghana from another European empire.
Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s First President, Kwame Nkrumah, attends the Russia-Africa media summit in Moscow together with other descendants of African liberation leaders: “The Russians helped us during our long and sometimes violent independence struggle all over the continent. So there is some goodwill there which we hope we can capitalize on to do more for our future in Africa.”

This is beyond horrifying. Russia struck a railway station in Dnipro with a drone, killing 13 people who were simply waiting for their train. The drone operators could see the platform in real time. They could see the civilians standing there. They knew what they were targeting, and they struck anyway.

🇬🇷 #Greece unequivocally condemns the recent maritime drone attack against a Greek-owned merchant vessel off the coast of #Bulgaria. Such attacks are unacceptable, endanger human lives & pose a serious threat to the safety of navigation. @MFABulgaria @GRinBulgaria @eu_eeas

Very good call with new Romanian PM @LucaNiculescu. We discussed Black Sea security and how NATO is stepping up its support and presence. We agreed on the importance of our strong support to Ukraine, and we discussed freedom of navigation, including in the Middle East

Russian & anti Nato flags in Rome🤔 Just ahead of other major strikes, rallies & a long All Saints' Day weekend.. Street protests are officially about the rising cost of living & what unions & political opposition call 'shift of public funds to arms' @Ander_Bruckes 📹 @GEDIspa

quick background reminder👉the claim that🇮🇹 is apparently shifting public funds away from critical welfare sectors like healthcare & ed into weapons procurement has taken over the political debate, but is often based on fake news & amplified by misleading rhetoric & political spin

Russia sending condolences for the train catastrophe in Spain and at the same time creating a new train catastrophe in Ukraine.
❗️Today, Russian forces struck a railway station platform in Dnipro, where a train carrying civilians was present. According to preliminary reports, 13 people have been killed and many others injured. Emergency services are working at the scene, providing assistance to those affected. These attacks are yet another horrific example of ongoing crimes against Ukraine and its people. My condolences to the families of those killed. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.

A horrific Russian strike on the railway station in Dnipro. The Russians launched a drone attack on a platform where an ordinary commuter train and a scheduled passenger train were standing. Unfortunately, 13 people have been confirmed killed as of now. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Ten more people were injured. All necessary emergency services are working at the scene. Just how many terrorist strikes has Russia carried out against our people since sanctions were lifted on certain Russian oligarchs and the Russian energy sector, rather than de-escalating? This is precisely why Ukraine has always said that just and decisive action by America and Europe is needed in response to Russian escalation – sanctions against Moscow and its war machine must not be eased for as long as this Russian war continues. It is time for new, stronger sanctions steps by the EU, the United States, and the G7. I thank everyone who is ready to help in this way.

Georgian democratic leader Elene Khoshtaria before and after jail. For a removable graffiti on Georgian Dream's electoral poster. Mother of 4.
Shocking footage of democratic leader Elene Khoshtaria, transported from prison to a clinic for a check-up. The wheelchair horrified society. Her "crime?" An easily removable graffiti on the Georgian Dream's campaign banner, “Russian Dream.” Sentenced to 1.5 years. She has 4 children. Journalist asked if she was going to continue the fight. “Until the end!” — Elene responded. @Helenkhosh @DroaParty 📷 Sando Tskaro

Fascinating. Someone should write up the story of Black Sea port cities over the past three decades. Batumi, Constanța, Trabzon, Burgas, Odesa. Lots of interesting threads - illustrating the dynamics of globalisation, regional connectivity, conflicts etc.
I've been coming to Batumi for about a decade and the city's transformation is one of the great stories of the Caucasus since the collapse of the USSR. Almost none of the buildings you can see in this photo above five stories was there in 2016. There's more tall buildings to the east of this. This was originally a relatively small city, the center of the mixed Muslim-Christian region of Adjara. When the Georgian government lost control of Sokhumi, the center of Black Sea tourism in Georgia, Batumi was the obvious city to build up. The liberal nationalist Saakashvili government built it up as a showcase of their economic reforms, but before the last decade the scale of construction was visible but not clear all over the city. Now the city has a booming population and buildings taller than what you find in Tbilisi, a vastly wealthier and more important city. It's surreal. The city has always had a unwholesome aura - it's a center of gambling and various unsavory forms of tourism - but whatever core identity of the city from before 1991 seems gone. After the 2020 crackdown in Belarus and the start of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the city has become a major center for Eastern European migration, and Turkish construction money is everywhere - the street I'm staying on is covered in advertisements for various Turkish pop musicians I've never heard of. The city now resembles nothing so much as Night City in the Cyberpunk setting - an artificial, newly constructed, libertarian port city where various powers and corporations bump elbows in a dysfunctional, chaotic urban environment defined by cultural incoherence and wealth inequality. I used to love this city. Not sure if that's true anymore. The Georgian Neoliberal Magnitogorsk has become another way for a construction elite in a corrupt right-wing government to entrench themselves across an entire society.

Shriek louder… maybe someone will finally hear you…. This is the state most people in Ukraine are living in. Losing loved ones happens here every day-some perish right before your eyes, while others learn of the death of their family members later... This morning alone, russia killed at least 17 people in various cities across Ukraine: * Dnipro 13 dead and 10 wounded; * Chernihiv 2 dead and 11 wounded; * Kremenchuk 2 dead. Our world is becoming increasingly cruel, life within Ukraine itself is growing harder, and the line between what is normal and abnormal is steadily blurring.

For centuries, the Ukrainian language has survived attempts to silence it — from imperial bans and censorship to the persecution of those who spoke, wrote, and defended it. Yet it has endured.

A massacre in the Dnipro passenger railway station today. A guided Russian drone targeted a crowded platform, killing at least 13 people and injuring many others, as per city officials. But diesel. But Russia wants peace. But don’t you dare hit their refineries.
