For immediate release: American Association of Geographers Divests From Firms Facilitating Israel's Genocide and Apartheid, but Falls Short on Academic Boycott, Membership Democracy #aag2026
One academic intervention, one poem and one urgent plea by Palestinian geographer, Lubna Ahmad Abu Sitta.
Abu Sitta holds an undergraduate degree in geography from Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, where she is currently pursuing her master’s in geography.
Abu Sitta also writes this poem in tribute to her martyred professors, Dr. Abdel Nasser Al-Saqqa and Dr Wiesam Essa, and her childhood friend, Shahd, also a fellow geographer.
Please share and/or contribute to Abu Sitta’s fundraiser, created to help her pay tuition fees, due by July 15 - only a few days left!

"This daytime military invasion of Birzeit University constitutes part of a systematic policy pursued by the Zionist settler-colonial regime to intimidate students and undermine their right to education, with the aim of suppressing Palestinian consciousness"
Birzeit University affirms that education will remain an act of anti-colonial resistance, and that the University will continue to be a space for knowledge and freedom, despite all attempts at repression and aggression.
