Just to be clear, im not calling for Calmac to be dropped, but its clear the midfield isnt functioning. And if its not functioning, its more of a problem having teams get at our goal far too easily, than for us not creating enough (which we kinda did today).
I think much of its personel. I am not convinced we have the options in the squad to properly fix our midfield and we'll need to sign a couple in January. Until then we need to find a way to get it at least working better as i do think theres some good things about this team.
CCV is out wide, Calmac can (should) see whats happening and drop in to close that space. He reacts far far too late and CCV cant react to stop it. Its a mess but a defensive midfielder would have closed that space.
I hate to write this but if Calmac cant get on the ball and he cant go with runners when teams attack us, then is he only on the pitch to tell Scales where he should be passing it? He's nowhere near as influencial as he used to be and its causing us problems. Particularly today
CCV obviously at fault for both goals but the 2nd has Tanser run right past Calmac who's either not seen the run or completly left him for others to deal with (and they didnt). Another 2 shocking goals have put us in big trouble.
Far from convinced we've got our best side out here. Assume there will be subs again at half time and see Hassan come on.
Absolutely no pressure on the ball from Hogh and Nygren. Incredible how easy teams have it playing out.
I think we're seeing a few things right now.
1) Most importantly we're seeing the team deliver 3 points.
2) We're seeing a small subset of the squad as being trusted to play and deliver
3) We're seeing tiredness at times due to number 2.
4) We lack depth in midfield
As for past 2 games. Midweek i thought showed where we really are. We're a side who can give a decent Celta Vigo team a game that really could have gone either way. Todays game the conditions make it one you just need to win.
