@bbclaurak @RachelReevesMP talks about training more teachers but 1/3 leave within 5 years. There are wider issues to think about - pay, workload, accountability, flexibility for teachers with children, school funding, burn out, sustainability over 50s, narrow curriculum etc 1/2
Academy leadership also needs looking at. Exec heads are often earning more than the Prime Minister which is taking away from what should be spent on our children and their education. #BBCLauraK
The UK economy loses out on an estimated Β£48 bn a year due to the lack of language skills in the workplace. This is not rocket science; we have to improve provision from an early age and allocate more curriculum time to make young people want to do langs in HE.
This afternoon will see a key meeting of the @APPGML on the need to sustain HE languages provision, and the requirement for strategic government action to safeguard options for languages and cultural study, including at degree level.
