Today marks 6 years since I began deploying capital in African equity markets for African Lions Fund, having uprooted my family from our home in Indonesia and moved full time to Dar Es Salaam. We began with US$3.88mn. Today, we manage over US$106mn, having delivered 28.6% compound annual returns (in USD), after all fees and expenses. It has been a smashing success.
Driving through even the smallest Tanzanian towns and villages as I have been this week, you see Airtel Money's presence everywhere...

I was in Zimbabwe with my whole African Lions Fund research team last week. It was quite a revelation!
Recent piece in South Africa's Financial Mail covered me and African Lions Fund.
African equities are offering compelling returns and demographic growth that many investors overlook.

Back in the bush on safari for the first time in nearly a year. Had the good fortune of spotting a pair of African Wild Dogs yesterday evening.
The 1755hrs Qatar Airways flight from Dar es Salaam to Doha flies over each evening like clockwork at this time of year. Thankfully it's already gained altitude by the time it goes over the house. Minimal noise.

After my divorce, I started paying attention to how I dressed. Back on the market. Watched videos, read articles, built my own style.
Simple logic: I never knew where I might meet someone. So I looked my best everywhere - even Walmart.
A couple years later, I visited a friend and his wife. Dinner. Good conversation. Nothing remarkable.
Recently, he told me I was one of the people who pushed him to get serious about fitness. After that dinner, his wife helped him level up his wardrobe.
Another friend reached out not long ago. Said I inspired him to get back on track with his health. He described me as older, polite, quiet, fit, and confident. And said he wanted that for his future.
I had no idea either of them was watching.
That’s how influence actually works.
African Lions Fund was up another 6.32% in August bringing total gains since inception to over 342%. That's 28.6% compound growth per annum. But Africa remains a hard sell as an investment destination for listed equities. That tells me there are more gains to come...!
Back in Cyprus for another edition of my friend Sopholcles' @FatAlpha Cyprus Value Investor Conference! For the fourth year running I am presenting an undervalued stock idea from my Africa Frontier universe...
