Created UNIX in 1971 when he was 28 years old.
Created Go in 2009 when he was 66 years old😲
He also developed the B programming language (which led to C), created UTF-8 encoding (making international text possible online), and designed essential tools like grep that developers still rely on daily.
He also helped with the development of Multics (that led to UNIX), Plan 9 from Bell Labs and Inferno operating systems.
That's 4 operating systems in total... Most people don't even use these many OS.
Pretty impressive resume, right? 🔥
And it's a shame that many people, even the ones in the IT and tech industry, don't know him.

Unpopular opinion: I never liked Apple products.
As a poor college student in the late 70s/early 80s, the Apple II was wayyy overpriced.
As a poor grad student in 1983-1987, the Mac was wayyyy overpriced (though nice for writing papers).
Anyone can make an impressive-but-expensive widget.
Making an impressive widget at low cost: that's the hardest thing.
The Amiga was one of those: super-powerful color graphics, wavetable sound, GUI *and* shell, preemptive multitasking OS, and Unix-like commands. Now *that* was impressive.
I wrote my PhD thesis in LaTex using emacs on my Amiga 1000, and Léon Bottou and I wrote our neural net simulator SN (later renamed Lush) on our Amigas in C with gcc.
This was like having a Sun workstation at home.

Niklaus Wirth was one of my heroes. Pascal was the second language I learned (after Apple BASIC). If you haven't already, look at any of the languages he designed, or read his writing. His sense of clarity and elegance inspires.

Classes absolutely *could* do this though, React just didn't add the (simple) API to do so.
We have it in Lit with Reactive Controllers: they're just objects with a lifecycle that gets called from the host lifecycle. Then a single controller can encapsulate a single concern.
