“If you’re thinking without writing, you only think you’re thinking.” ― Leslie Lamport This quote lives rent-free in my head these days, now that delegating our writing to AI is more and more common.

I’m glad I got a few of these not long ago.

Not enough is said about the stuff you never really learned about software development but that held you back. For me it was Dockerfiles and deployment setup. With AI, that wall is just gone, and I'm shipping things I would've abandoned before. What was yours?

Had one of those nights where all the vibe coded pieces collapse in front of you and you realize engineers are still very, very much necessary

Every 'software is dead' wave killed a way of working, not the job. Today we barely read the code. We're still the ones behind the wheel, making sure what we ship works and deciding the architecture and what to build. Something tells me we're still going to be around in 2034.
In 1994, software was dead. People told me programming was for nerds and that I should become a doctor or a lawyer instead. In 2004, software was dead. People told me that someone from India would take my job for $5/hour. In 2014, software was dead. People told me that no-code was going to kill every job and doom my career. In 2024, software was dead with Devin, Windsurf, Copilot, and OpenAI o1. We kill software every 10 years, and yet the demand for good Software Engineers has never been higher.

Bring back skeuomorphism
If you put the Apple icons in reverse it looks like the portfolio of someone getting really really good at icon design
Readers added context they thought people might want to know

you can just “build” things
"you" can just build things

4 years in, and I'm still mostly doing the same thing with AI: 1. Talk to the clanker about the thing 2. Agree with the clanker on how to do the thing 3. Ask the clanker to do the thing we agreed on 4. Repeat No secret sauce or "software factory" needed.

one day you wrote console.log("here") for the last time and didn't even know it

most devs will be left without a way to provide for their family in 2027 but don't worry. the influencers who in 2025 were yelling at top of their lungs that ai is a gimmick (and now use it lmfao) will pay your rent and buy you groceries when it's all over :)

Pixamp is ready to download at pixamp.app If you loved Winamp and now use macOS, give it a try. And if you have a music library gathering dust, maybe it’s time to dust it off.

If you think that code review is a bottleneck, wait until you hit the App Store review

Guy who does not work remotely diagnosing remote work. Season 31, episode 19.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

Be right back, giving this a try! I hate LG TVs user interface.
Vibe coded my parents' TV this afternoon! It was showing a sponsored ad before you could even get to Netflix. Gave Claude Code the model number, it found the TV on wifi, removed 25 Xiaomi packages and wrote a new launcher. Looks like an Apple TV now lol

Some people say software development is dead, turns out it now has a social network of its own and all 😅 dev-null.sh/@gnapse
