Here in the falling season, we revel. So do the spirit-folk, and they're friendly. They say, "What's got you looking, my good wight?" "Gone Lawn 67!" we say, "it's up, it's up!" "Well, I'll be! May we join you?" they ask. And of course we say, Yes. gonelawn.net/journal/issue67…

HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette are using Claude and ChatGPT to email literary agents, write publicity and back-cover copy, design cover art, marketing materials, and draft rejection letters. AI use among authors is apparently also rampant now behind the scenes.

It's a Twitter anniversary, factually, first of all. Second . . . we'd prefer not to.

In a sea of bad news, Anne Carson wins the Nobel Prize. Hoora— oh. More bad news. Well, you can ignore it and spend today reading her!

Gone Lawn is open to submissions for #68! Send us your gems and your garden animals now or whenever you feel like it, so long as it's not so long that it gets lost in the shaw. That happens sometimes, you know! The shaw is risky! gonelawn.net/journal/glj_sub…

No "AI artist" understands art. They do not understand ð agonic meaning of it all. They do not understand ð love of it, ð pain of it, ð way it cries out & what it cries out for. They have not lived ð childhood, ð adolescence, ð adulthood of ð artist. Nor will they die for art.

Midterm elections in a month and a day. Do what history demands of you, fellow artists & other beautiful people, & make sure your friends & family vote, too. Don't let any bullies at the polls discourage or chase you. VOTE. The cost of not doing so is higher than we can reach.

When Gone Lawn hit the 40s, we started getting confused with the numbers. 43 became 34 and so forth. Crazy time. Now we're looking forward to #68, and we don't know what's real any longer! What's 68? What is it? But we'll still deliver the stuff.

Going through proofs now for #67. Be prepared! For this isssue, we're adding diacritics everywhere they're not meant to be. When authors complain we say, "Deal with it." Just kidding. Submissions for #68 will open on Monday.

I think we've said this before and if so it needs repeating: If we are closed to submissions of fiction and poetry, PLEASE do not send us your work slyly via email. Thank you. We will be opening for submissions again soon.

Holy holes!
As seen on a poetry journal's website... Journals really seem snowed under... What's the solution?

Thank you all those who challenged my grammatical rules. Maybe I'm tight on these things but it's my job, right? As well as writing. And you are writers with opinions . . . so . . . while I might have appeared arrogant or unwavering, I remained thoughtful, I swear.

. . . And if you liked my rules so far, I have more for you, even more controversial!

Just found this after months of looking the wrong place (I can be an idiot) : Gone Lawn is #22 among flash lit mags (we're 250 out of 1000 mags overall). According to Brecht de Poortere's rankings.

A few famous mistakes that most writers make : May = to be allowed. It doesn't mean "might." Comprise = include. It isn't a fancier word for "compose." Whence = wherefrom. Thus, "from whence" is redundant. For possession: It's Jonas's, not Jonas'. Plurality ≠ possession.
