Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Nine months later, sitting in jail, he flipped off a guard, charged him, and grabbed his stun gun. The whole thing was caught on camera. It happened on November 13, 2018, at the Broward County Main Jail. Sgt. Raymond Beltran told Cruz to stop dragging his sandals. Cruz gave him the middle finger, paused for a second, then rushed him. They hit the floor. Cruz got hold of Beltran's taser but it didn't hit anyone. Beltran fought him off alone, got him in cuffs and walked him out. Backup took about two minutes to show up. A source said it's normally 20 to 30 seconds. Cruz was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. The shooting happened on Valentine's Day 2018 in Parkland, Florida. 14 students and 3 staff members were killed. The youngest victims were 14. Cruz was 19 and pleaded guilty to all 17 murders and 17 attempted murders. Prosecutors wanted the death penalty. The jury needed to be unanimous. 3 jurors voted for life. So in November 2022 he got life without parole, with no chance of ever getting out. One victim's mother told him in court she hoped he'd be "miserable for the rest of your pathetic life." The families wanted death. He got a cell for the rest of his life.
