"But the specter of democratic collapse and autocratic rule haunting America over the last two years has receded. Yesterday’s voting process and election results delivered the autocratic project a devastating blow. American democratic institutions bent but did not break."

🇺🇦🇷🇺 RUSSIAN REFINERIES BURN AS NEW CLAIMS EMERGE OF TROUBLE INSIDE PUTIN'S WAR MACHINE
Five nights of Ukrainian drone strikes, burning oil facilities and fresh allegations of financial pressure on Russia's military.
Reports circulating from Russia describe another fire at the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl, roughly 250 kilometres from Moscow, alongside disruption at oil facilities around Samara.
The same accounts claim Kazakhstan has suspended the transit of 200,000 barrels of Russian oil per day, while Russian authorities have sharply reduced military recruitment bonuses from $39,000 to $8,000 and postponed troop payments until January.
Those specific figures and decisions have not been independently confirmed, nor is there evidence establishing that Ukrainian strikes directly caused the alleged reductions.
Other claims paint an equally troubling picture: prolonged electricity outages in Russian-occupied Crimea, soldiers complaining about inadequate food and medical care, and allegations of abuse by Russian commanders.
One particularly disturbing account concerns a soldier from Russia's 6th Tank Regiment whose family claims he was mistreated after raising concerns about missing medical records.
Meanwhile, Russian military commentators are questioning the extraordinary time and resources required to capture Ukrainian territory at the current pace of operations.
The Kremlin can replace damaged equipment, recruit additional soldiers and repair industrial facilities. But every disruption consumes money, manpower and time that could otherwise support its war.
The question is how much of that pressure Russia can absorb without changing its military calculations.
For now, the dramatic claims of an imminent financial collapse go considerably further than the evidence available.

It’s not your party.
It’s Trump’s party.
The GOP is dead.

And a special, heartfelt greeting from Ukraine goes out to outgoing House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Yes, the very same Mike Johnson who, for six months, at the behest of his boss, who wasn’t even president at the time, disgracefully refused to bring the Ukraine aid bill to a vote, even though the U.S. Congress was perfectly ready to pass it.
I hope the fallen Ukrainian soldiers and the ruins of Avdiivka will haunt your dreams.

IT WAS NOT!!! It was not.

If Democrats actually reach 260 seats, Trump will have accomplished something remarkable: making the Democratic Party great again.

Pete Hegseth is so fucking dumb. Seriously, we're talking about next level stupidity. All those times Trump would blurt out to the White House press corps, "He loves war" — Trump was just setting Hegseth up to be the fall guy for his Iran disaster, yet Pete was too dense to figure it out.

russian idiots tried to stop a Ukrainian ground robot with a grenade. It did not go well for them.
Ground robots now do the two jobs nobody wants: hit infantry up close and pull out the wounded. Svoboda Battalion's UGVs alone saved 100+ lives.

Lolz, this headline @TheAtlantic.
As a Hungarian-American this decade has been incredibly frustrating and painful. At every turn, there was a cringey, populist dictator-wanna-be staring back at me.
Delighted that both America and Hungary are back on the path to sanity.

I don't know how high it ranked on voters priorities, but I'd like to think that at least some of the brutal beating the GOP got was because of having an unhinged anti vaxxer in RFK Jr put in charge of US health policy
That guy has GOT to go

Losing midterms is not the breaking news. It happens all the time. The breaking news is how Republicans lost. They lost decisively in states which were considered deeply red. Texas, North and South Carolina, possibly Alaska and even Kansas. How can you lose Kansas, a state where the senator has been Republican for 94 years, straight?
The MAGA movement is finished, period. The questions for the GOP is now how to move forward with Trump. If he stays in the White House for another 2 years, then a Democrat POTUS is virtually certain. Nobody is coming for JD Vance if this goes on, and Marco Rubio is too much of pro not to throw in his hat. Even Trump was conceding last night.
Speculations will now run wild, but a possible outcome is Trump's resignation, so that JD Vance can pardon him as it has been done with Nixon. This is the "carrot" from the GOP for Trump to go quietly. Yet, it might be an uphill battle for the Republican party, nonetheless, but it has better chances of succeeding than keeping the current course.
Interesting times are ahead.

.@JamesTalarico: I got about two hours of sleep last night, but you had me on the show back in February of last year, and I wanted to be here with all of you after yesterday's result.
I wanted to speak to my constituents, including my constituents who didn't vote for me yesterday, because I wanna be a senator for all 31 million Texans. I am not going to Washington to represent the Democratic Party. I'm going to Washington to represent Texas.
That work starts today, and I'll get sleep later.
