I just finished reading Guattari’s unproduced screenplay, A Love of UIQ. It’s a fairly amateurish text with some interesting philosophical moments. It’s a good reminder that just because someone is a genius in one domain, that doesn’t mean they’re particularly good in others.

“In the era of artificial intelligence, is it not finally time to rid oneself of the massive oppositions between mind and body once and for all, and to study the interface operators between these two modalities of existence?” Guattari, 1987

I’m happy to see that a reading group of academics in South Korea is making its way through my Philosophy of Isabelle Stengers. Here’s the first presentation by a professor there. I don’t read Korean, but it seems really good from a rough translation. philonatu.dothome.co.kr/revi…

“If there is a text to be learned by heart, it’s Spinoza’s Ethics. Learning Kant by heart makes no sense! That would be useless. Learning Spinoza by heart will serve you throughout your life.” (Deleuze, 6 January 1981)

This is a line from a science fiction screenplay Guattari wrote in the eighties.

I have been simulating fluids for 15 years. There is a widespread impression that the Navier Stokes equations have been now “solved”, thanks to OpenAI. This suggests that they were “unsolved” so far and this was a major engineering breakthrough. This is not true. This misunderstanding deeply bothers me as a computational physicist. So I had to put this out.

I’ve been reading a lot of books about technology and politics lately, and this is one of my favorites. It persuasively argues that any viable postcapitalist future will require us to appropriate emerging technologies like AI and robotics as the means of production.

One thing I love about Guattari is that he’s deeply optimistic.
