You know how right now lots of people are saying that the Obama Center is hideous? Remember what noted art and architecture critic Mayor Richard J. Daley said about the Chicago Picasso at its 1967 dedication.

This is terrible news! If only Chicago could promote modes that let you opt out of sitting in traffic jams, so that people who really need to drive wouldn't have to deal with soul-numbing congestion!

Chicago has the worst traffic in America.
Another testament to the incompetence of @IDOT_Illinois and @ChicagoDOT and their abysmal ability to deliver projects on time.
In Chicago's historically Polish-American wards, the de-facto ability of the local City Council rep to veto infrastructure projects in their district is known as "Aldermanic Pierogi-tive."
A @GoFundMe has been launched for Dean Schlabowske, from the Chicago/UK country-punk band The Waco Brothers, and his wife Jo as they navigate his cancer treatment. Bicycle advocates may know Dean's brother Dave, who was the bike coordinator for Milwaukee.

Shout-out to @chicityclerk's Senior Admin. Assistant Toni Pacheco. After I called the office looking for the Traffic Safety Committee livestream and reached a recording, she called back, was friendly & gave me the info I needed. Way to disprove stereotypes about City workers! 👍
And no disrespect intended to the City workers in the attached screenshot of the Safety Committee livestream! I just needed an image so I could tag a few more people to spread the work about the great response I got from @chicityclerk's office.
People should hang out next to the Lakefront Trail with signs reading, "Real men don't ride motorcycles on bike paths."

The Northern Illinois Transit Authority launched last month, with the goal of transforming Chicagoland into an Oasis of world-class public transportation.

Some wards w/ bike-friendly alders are pretty rideable nowadays. Here's a trip I did w/ a traffic-shy friend for Octoberfest dinner at Laschet's Inn: All side streets w/ signalized crossings of main streets, thanks to contraflow lanes on Leland, Leavitt, Berteau. 👍

If you can't get in there, Resi's Bierstube, basically across the street, is also a cool place.

D'oh! Slight cartography error in my previous map draft. Winthrop (southbound) and Kenmore (northbound) is the couplet we took in Uptown and Edgewater, fixed in this version.

Can we all take a moment to acknowledge that September when it's sunny out is the best time to be in Chicago? May is great too.
On the Red Line around midnight, there was a boy, maybe 12, sketching. I had earbuds on. When the kid approached me, I just said, "No thanks." He dropped a piece of paper next to me. It wasn't until he got off the train that I looked at the drawing. I guess I owe him a few bucks.

This story keeps showing up on my "bike Chicago" Google News searches, although it took place in Philly, so I guess I'd better share it. While bike helmets shouldn't be mandatory, they can help mitigate head injuries, as well as deter perverts.

.@chibbqk1ng thanks for the tip on the excellent $6 cheeseburger at Best Intentions.
Time Out rated Chicago's West Town as one of "The 40 coolest neighbourhoods in the world in 2026." That's fun, but their statement, "The official boundaries vary depending on who you ask," is incorrect. Here are the official boundaries, per the City:

If the great food, vibrant culture, easy beach access, decent walk/bike/transit, etc. doesn't already make you glad to live in Chicago, here's one more reason. As I already knew, this will be a good place to live when climate change really rears its head.
