Why does going plastic-free matter? 🌊 Our rivers, creeks & bays are the lifeblood of Melbourne 🗑️ Litter on our streets find their way into stormwater drains & pollute our waterways 🚯 Litter has a devastating impact on biodiversity & wildlife #MakeLitterExtinct #PlasticFreeJuly

It takes a lot of energy to transfer and treat sewage. That’s why we’ve constructed one of Australia’s largest behind-the-meter solar installations at Eastern Treatment Plant. Another way we're working towards net zero emissions by 2030. bit.ly/3IaYebs #OurPathToNetZero

El Paso (Texas, USA) will construct a new plant to produce purified recycled water from wastewater. The purified water will not be sent to a dam, a river or used to recharge groundwater. Instead, it will go directly to the drinking water supply system. elpasoinc.com/news/local_new…

Interesting reading comments implying that since Melbourne's dams are full, seawater desalination hasn't been needed. That view overlooks the fact that part of the reason WHY dams are full is that since Jul 2019, >25% of the water supplied has been produced by the desal plant.

SO WET WIPES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET. THEY DO NOT BREAK DOWN LIKE TOILET PAPER DOES. THEY WILL BLOCK YOUR PIPES AND CAUSE AN OVERFLOW IN YOUR HOME. YOU MUST PUT THEM IN THE BIN. ONLY FLUSH TOILET PAPER PEE AND POO.

Just another example of garbage being flushed down toilets and plugging up a grinder at the wastewater pumping station. $150,000 to replace a grinder!🤯🤔Please stop flushing garbage down toilets people! The sewer workers would appreciate that!🚽#toiletsarenotgarbagecans #Sewers
