ISAIAS IS A MAJOR CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE! Had a question about Florida State University… I feel the landfall is far enough east for FSU to not suffer major impacts as the core of the winds will be confined to areas around #Pensacola #HurricaneIsaias will make landfall later this evening! A rough evening ahead for the Gulf Coast! @PIX11News

The big dig begins into the palisades of NJ for about a mile. #GatewayTunnel crews & 2 giant machines are boring into the bedrock. This part will take about a year. The larger project is 10 sites that includes a tunnel under the river. Scheduled completion 2035. @PIX11News

New Yorkers: the storm is still underway, and quiet stretches can give way to strong gusts at any moment. Winds are bringing down trees, loosening facades and scaffolding, and knocking down power lines across the city. If you're outside, use caution in parks and anywhere with trees, keep clear of scaffolding, cranes, and construction sites, and stay far away from anything it touches including cars, fences, and puddles. Never try to move a tree or branch that's tangled in wires. Watch for loose signs, awnings, and debris blowing off buildings. Call 911 if there’s a life safety issue for trees and power lines. Hazards will remain after the storm ends, so continue to exercise caution when getting around.

NOR’EASTER UPDATE: ONE MORE MAJOR PUSH OF WIND & RAIN TO GO! 🌧️💨 As the storm rotates in, expect another round of powerful winds to push into NYC and areas south and east. I also expect another surge of strong winds into the suburbs before conditions finally begin to calm down. 🌊 MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING remains a serious concern tonight as we approach high tide, building on the water already piled up from this morning’s cycle. Tides will continue to run impressively high into Sunday morning, especially from Barnegat Bay northward along the Jersey Shore and across coastal areas into southern Suffolk County. @PIX11News

NYC Emergency Management just wrapped a coordination call with the National Weather Service and City agencies. Here's where things stand and what's ahead. What's happened so far
🌧️ About half an inch to an inch of rain has fallen across the city.
🌬️ Gusts have reached 45 mph citywide and up to 55 mph at JFK. NYC Parks has received about 640 requests for downed or damaged trees since Friday, most in Queens and Brooklyn.
🌊 Jamaica Bay reached major flood levels with this morning's high tide, and parts of Long Island Sound reached moderate flooding. What's ahead
🌧️ Tonight, about 8 p.m. through mid-morning Sunday: The heaviest rain arrives in bands falling at up to 1 inch per hour. Some areas could see 2 inches overnight, with localized amounts up to 3 inches. Isolated flash flooding is possible.
🌬️ Tonight into Sunday morning: Gusts of 45 to 55 mph continue, with an isolated gust to 60 mph possible. More downed trees and power outages are likely.
🌊 Tonight's high tide: Around 8:15 to 9 p.m. on the south shore and near midnight along Long Island Sound. Moderate flooding is expected in Jamaica Bay and the Rockaways.
🌊 Sunday's high tides: Around 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. on the south shore and around noon along the Sound. Moderate flooding is expected in Jamaica Bay and the Rockaways. The midday tide could bring more widespread moderate flooding to the coastal Bronx and northern Queens, including parts of Flushing and Astoria. Staten Island and Lower Manhattan should see minor flooding.
🌤️ Sunday afternoon: Winds drop off to gusts around 35 mph. Scattered heavy showers are possible into the evening, and showers linger into Monday.
🏖️ City beaches are closed to swimming and lifeguards are not on duty. Life-threatening rip currents are expected, so stay out of the water. 🚗 Tonight through late Sunday morning is the worst time to travel. City crews are clearing downed trees, responding to flooding, and keeping rescue teams staged along the coast. ✅ If you live in a basement, be ready to move to a higher floor. Never walk or drive through floodwater, and stay away from downed lines.
🌳 Report fallen trees to 311.
🏠 Report damage to your home or business at reportdamage.nyc.gov. Text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 for alerts. Basement apartment residents can sign up at nyc.gov/notify and select the basement apartment option to get automated phone calls during flooding.

WATCH THE UPPER-LEVEL ENERGY ENTER THE PICTURE… 🌀 Evening update on the Nor’easter: The forecast remains largely on track as upper-level energy begins interacting with the storm. Coastal impacts remain the BIG story: moderate to pockets of MAJOR coastal flooding, 50–60+ mph wind gusts along exposed shorelines, significant beach erosion, and dangerous surf. Long Island and the Jersey Shore remain most vulnerable. Now we watch how the system responds and intensifies overnight. I’ll see you on TV at 8AM on @PIX11News and streaming LIVE from 9AM–1PM on the PIX11 website with the latest storm track and impacts.

For you and your family's safety, right now is your last chance to get ready before the nor'easter arrives. Here's what to expect today: 💨 A Wind Advisory starts at 2 p.m., with gusts of 40 to 50 mph that could bring down trees, limbs, and power lines. 🌧️ Rain moves in this afternoon and evening. It's the start of 2 to 3 inches through the weekend. 🌊 Coastal Flood Warnings begin at 6 p.m. for Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, with a Coastal Flood Advisory for Manhattan. Minor to locally moderate flooding is possible around tonight's high tide: about 7 to 8 p.m. on the south shore, and around midnight in the Bronx and northern Queens. Secure loose outdoor items and charge your devices now. If you park on a street that floods during coastal flooding, move your car before tonight's high tide. Never walk or drive through floodwater. Text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 for alerts. Basement apartment residents should sign up at nyc.gov/notifynyc and select the basement apartment option to get phone call alerts during flooding.

⚠️ STORM READY TO EXPLODE AS JET STREAM ENERGY INFUSES INTO THE SYSTEM... This is a very compelling picture this morning on water vapor. A powerful jet streak is entering the picture as the upper-level low and surface low begin to interact. The storm is primed to POP. As the system becomes vertically stacked (500mb, 200mb, and 1000mb lows align) we should begin to see pressures rapidly fall along the coast over the next several hours. The going forecast remains on track, with a strong signal that the storm will make that important WESTWARD BEND. ON TV NOW with my latest storm track and impacts on @PIX11News.
