WARD 14 Candidates Debate.
Tent City Removal
Across TORONTO
@CarymaRules discusses her, on the ground journalism, which witnessed complexities that involved Police and Activists.
I would assume also included the City Council as well as the Mayor

Congratulations to Emily Lowan on her victory in Saanich North and the Islands. Running for office takes enormous grit, and whatever the political differences, nobody can deny the sheer hustle and energy her campaign brought to the doorstep. Today is her day to celebrate. Her speech last night spoke directly to issues so many British Columbians are feeling deeply: crushing rents, long waits for family doctors, and the exhaustion of working multiple jobs just to stay afloat. Those anxieties are real, and they deserve real answers.
Where her message runs off the rails, and was on the nose for many, is in the intellectual playbook she chose to summon at the podium.
Invoking the late David Graeber - the anarchist anthropologist and chief theorist behind Occupy Wall Street - Lowan quoted his line that the world is an experiment that “we make and could just as easily make differently.”
It sounds poetic in an election hall, but let’s remember what Graeber’s philosophy actually is. He wasn't arguing for better daycare funding or incremental transit tweaks. He was an uncompromising revolutionary who wrote:
“Direct action is the open defiance of an illegitimate authority... it is an insistence on acting as if one is already free, and in doing so, exposing the violence at the heart of the state.”
This isn't an abstract debate from Zuccotti Park fifteen years ago. Right here in British Columbia, we see this eco-anarchist doctrine (rejected by 90% of voters, btw) playing out in real time, where activist networks deploy blockades to obstruct First Nations who have chosen to pursue economic options, equity ownership, and major project partnerships in their own territories.
That is the most glaring flaw at the heart of the anarchist critique. While invoking Indigenous rights as an abstract slogan, this mindset routinely overrides the actual, self-determined aspirations of Indigenous communities that are choosing economic independence and shared prosperity over perpetual reliance on government transfers.
About one in ten B.C. voters backed the Greens this election. Yet I suspect very few of those well-meaning citizens have taken the time to truly examine what this strain of green thinking entails. It doesn't seek to refine our economic system. It seeks to dismantle it.
At the same time, what British Columbia does not need is an equal and opposite reaction to Graeber-think. Retreating into our own ideological bunkers and answering dogma with hardline polarization is a guaranteed path to conflict, not reconciliation.
You cannot fund community health centres, electrify transit grids, or pay nurses’ salaries with protest theory. Those services are underwritten by royalties, payroll taxes, and the tangible economic engine of B.C. - mining, forestry, energy, ports, and trade.
Tomorrow when La Rose vs HMTK opens in a Vancouver courtroom, an object lesson will be on display of what happens when Graeber-styled thinking occurs in the wild, where the goal is for the tail to wag the dog. I’ll be watching it closely.
I genuinely wish Emily the best as she steps into the Legislature. The transition from movement activist to accountable lawmaker is where ideology collides with balance sheets and physical reality. That’s a transition every British Columbian has a stake in seeing succeed.

Attention Ward 14 Toronto - Danforth:
After 23 long years, you finally have an opportunity to elect a fresh face to represent your interests at City Hall.
Caryma Sa’d is a bright, articulate lawyer who has been tirelessly documenting Toronto streets for the better part of a decade. In the courtroom, she has fought for tenant rights, and would be a great advocate for Ward 14.
IntegrityTO fully supports @Vote4Sad as your next city councillor. Election October 26 🗳️

We really need to stop calling events where people burn buildings down and loot and rob people “protests.”

WATCH & READ:
Protester attacks Kyle from behind, dragging him to the ground and punching him in the head. He is defenceless throughout.
Others then swarm around the victim, pointing, laughing, and seemingly trying to prevent others from helping.
The assailant escapes into the crowd after being urged to leave by one of his comrades.
A familiar presence in the protest landscape, Kyle has participated in a range of causes as a protester, counterprotester, and independent content creator.
Today, he was accompanying @mitch6669, who’d been threatened for peacefully recording the demonstration.
Kyle was taken to hospital with a serious knee injury and is currently unable to walk.
This is what happens when repeated warnings about unlawful behaviour at protests go unanswered, and police refuse to meaningfully address concerns about enforcement.
It’s as though protesters have been led to believe they can assault people with impunity, particularly those documenting their public activities.

David Eby seems to think being a billionaire is something to be condemned.
Maybe he should take a look at what Jimmy Pattison has actually done for British Columbia.
• EXPO 86: Pattison worked virtually full-time for five years without compensation to help make Expo 86 a reality and putting Vancouver on the world stage
• Health care: He donated $75 million to St. Paul’s Hospital, described by the B.C. government as a historic contribution to Canadian health-care philanthropy. (BC News)
• Royal Columbian Hospital: He donated $30 million toward the redevelopment, with the new acute-care tower now bearing his name.
• Surrey health care: He donated $5 million toward the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, helping fund equipment and attract physicians.
-Vancouver General Hospital: donated $20 million to VGH
-He made major contributions to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, Burnaby, Kelowna General and Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. A 2024 grant record shows nearly $20 million in foundation grants in one year, much of it going to B.C. health care.
- Children’s health: the Pattison Group, has contributed tens of millions of dollars to B.C. Children’s Hospital, including $15 million for its family immunization clinic.
• Jobs and investment: The Pattison Group grew from a single Vancouver car dealership into a major Canadian business empire employing thousands of people.
So when David Eby looks at Jimmy Pattison and sees only “a billionaire,” British Columbians should remember what Pattison has actually contributed.
He built businesses. He created jobs. He invested in our communities. He helped put Vancouver on the world stage. And he has donated millions to help British Columbians receive health care.
We should be debating how to create more success stories like Jimmy Pattison not denigrating people simply because they achieved extraordinary success.
B.C. needs more builders, more investment and more ambition, not politicians who turn success into something to be ashamed of and using him for cheap political talking points

We live in a society where progressive politicians run little violent street gangs that mete out beatings to dissidents. Been calling this out since the Catherine McKenney chose to make the beating of protesters part of her campaign for mayor of Ottawa in 2022. She won 38% of the vote.
I was assaulted by Vancouver Quadra MP Wade Grant's street bruisers earlier this year at UBC.
Needless to say, the police stand back and permit this with impunity.
The hour is later than you think.

“The public deserves to know what happens on the streets. It is concerning that a relatively small, recurring network of activists is repeatedly involved in disruptive or violent conduct that consumes a disproportionate amount of police resources, seemingly without end.”

I don’t know about you but I miss the days when mothers and kids going to school were the priority on the TTC. Now it’s completely taken over by scuzzy drug addicts and the TTC actively encourages this. Maybe it’s time to vote in some new councillors?
Why are TTC employees tapping people into the system?
The next time someone is blowing meth smoke on you in the subway, there is a good chance they got on because a TTC employee tapped them in. This is sponsored fare evasion and undermines the TTC’s anti-fare evasion messaging.
Ten years ago, only 1/3 of the TTC’s operating budget was taxpayer-supported. Now it’s 2/3 - with Olivia Chow promising more “free” rides. We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, and the bill will come sooner rather than later.
Should this practice of TTC employees tapping people into the subway be investigated? 🤔

Being debunked by Lukashenko is yet another new low for Trump.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko says Belarus cannot supply potash to the United States under Donald Trump's proposed "deal" with Belarus.
Lukashenko said today, "Even if we wanted to supply somewhere else, Western markets, we just don't have those volumes, everything has been contracted."
Donald Trump announced on Truth Social earlier that he was working on a "massive Deal with respect to the purchase of Potash from Belarus. The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada."
It appears that Lukashenko just counter-signalled Trump's announcement.
