Part of Nigel Biggar’s article in The Sunday Times today, reminding us that a careful reading of history, by an historian who know what he’s talking about, is a big improvement on what too often passes for debate about slavery reparations.

One of my personal and favorite memories.
When I was a young boy in the mid-1980s, I had an encounter that left a lasting impression on me. During one of my visits to my great-grandmother, Dini de Groot, who lived in a hospice and frail-care home for the very elderly, I met an old lady who shared her accommodation. She was well into her nineties, perhaps even older, and I discovered, to my absolute fascination, that she had been alive during the Anglo-Boer War.
Naturally, I bombarded her with questions. She laughed at my enthusiasm and explained that she remembered very little of the war itself, as she had grown up on a remote farm in the Kimberley district. However, she did have two particularly vivid memories, which she recounted with great amusement.
The first concerned her father, a farmer who wanted absolutely nothing to do with the war. He had no interest in the Boers, no affection for the British, and even less patience for politics. He considered such matters beneath him. His interests were his sheep, goats and the running of his farm.
Unfortunately, the farm happened to be in an area where control frequently changed hands. So, every morning, the old farmer had to establish who was in charge of the district that particular day. If it was the British, up went the Union Jack. If the Boers were in control, the appropriate Boer flag went up instead. It was a daily ritual: find out who was in charge, hoist the correct flag, and get on with farming. The old lady laughed as she described how her father simply wanted to be left alone to tend to his animals, regardless of whose army happened to be passing through.
Her second memory, however, was the one that really made her laugh.
One night, a party of British soldiers crept onto the farm and helped themselves to a considerable number of chickens from the farmer's coop. The following morning, the family and farmworkers discovered the theft. There was little doubt about who was responsible, as the British garrison was stationed only a few miles away.
Her father was absolutely furious. So furious, in fact, that he stopped all farm work for the day and ordered everyone into the kitchen. His wife, the farmworkers and even his young daughter were put to work preparing enormous pots of chicken soup.
There was just one small problem: there was no chicken in it.
It was, in fact, vegetable soup.
Once the pots were ready, the old farmer had them delivered to the local British commander, accompanied by a rather pointed message:
“Here is the soup to go with the chickens your soldiers stole last night.”
Apparently, the gesture caused considerable embarrassment at the British garrison. The commander, clearly recognising the humour and the farmer's indignation, responded by sending over a ten-pound note. He apologised profusely for the theft, thanked the farmer for the soup, and assured him that such behaviour would not happen again. He also remarked that the soup was a welcome morale booster for his men and offered the money as compensation for the stolen chickens.
And that was the story.
As a young boy, I was utterly captivated. Here was someone who had lived through the Anglo-Boer War, yet her most entertaining recollections were not of battles, generals or military campaigns. They were of a farmer who refused to take sides, hoisted whichever flag happened to be required that morning, and dealt with British chicken thieves by sending them chicken soup without the chicken.
Even today, I find the story rather wonderful. It is a small, humorous glimpse into ordinary life during an extraordinary and turbulent period in South African history.
The story is 100% true and mine, this image .... not so much

Nigeria: Muslims abduct Christian pastor’s wife and daughter, threaten to kill wife and sell daughter into slavery
The horror of this is unfathomable, but Boko Haram is acting in full accord with Islamic law.
“As for the captives, the amir [ruler] has the choice of taking the most beneficial action of four possibilities: the first to put them to death by cutting their necks; the second, to enslave them and apply the laws of slavery regarding their sale and manumission; the third, to ransom them in exchange for goods or prisoners; and fourth, to show favor to them and pardon them. Allah, may he be exalted, says, ‘When you encounter those [infidels] who deny [the Truth=Islam] then strike [their] necks’ (Qur’an sura 47, verse 4)” — Al-Mawardi, al-Ahkam as-Sultaniyyah (The Laws of Islamic Governance).

The ANC, South Africa after 1994, the global Left, and the USA
It is important to understand the context of the global "South Africa project" that began in 1994. South Africa was intended to become the world’s leftist utopia. The ANC enjoyed the backing of the entire Left. Post-1994 South Africa was to be the quintessential example of a victory over any form of conservative, Christian, Western-oriented movements in the New World and beyond.
This is precisely why so many on the Left flocked to South Africa after 1994. It became a destination for leftist academics, journalists, and organizations to come and work on this new project. Foreign funding, from the UN, USAID, numerous European nations, George Soros, and thousands of global NGOs, poured into South Africa. South African universities, such as Wits and UCT, were transformed into "woke" laboratories. Media outlets like eNCA, the Daily Maverick, and others were tasked with using this foreign capital to keep the leftist narrative alive.
The ANC were treated as saints; they were beyond criticism. South Africa itself was also considered beyond reproach, after all, it was the nation that represented a grand triumph of egalitarianism, humanism, open borders, and liberal individualism over what was perceived as the stifling, narrow-minded conservatism and collective groupthink of the Afrikaners. For the global Left to showcase its success, Afrikaners had to be not merely defeated, but destroyed and South Africa had to be presented as a utopia.
Consequently, the 3,000 brutal farm murders simply do not exist within the pages or broadcasts of leftist media outlets like eNCA and the Daily Maverick. ANC corruption was denied throughout the 90s and early 2000s. While Afrikaners were driven out of the public sector, the number of Afrikaner university students was halved, 500,000 of our people were forced to leave the country because they could no longer find work, two-thirds of our schools were taken over, our museums and monuments were defunded, or even removed or destroyed and our cultural spaces were increasingly restricted, no one took issue with this; for the "New South Africa" to succeed, the end of the Afrikaner was deemed essential.
And now, 32 years later, we face the reality of this failed utopian project. Last year, for the first time in over 30 years, a major power, the USA, was willing to speak the truth about South Africa, directly and honestly. Today, Afrikaners have more international friends than at any point in the last century. The ANC has been exposed and is slowly dying; hyper-individualism and the left-progressive hope for a utopian, post-tribal South Africa have given way to a new collectivism and a firm realization that South Africa can only be saved through strong communities.
Soros may continue to fund left-wing media, but fortunately, the American tax dollars that once financed nonsense such as gender studies at South African universities have dried up. The struggle continues. The leftist utopia never materialized, and it never will. But for each of us who, alongside a deep love for our own identity, also harbors a deep love for our country and all its people, a great task lies ahead; and what stands out as an undeniable fact is that, despite 32 years of an onslaught against the Afrikaner, an increasing number of South Africans today realize that a well-organized Afrikaner community is precisely what is needed to help South Africa succeed in the future.

White South African tortured and had his ears hacked off during a horrific robbery at his farm as the attackers remain at large.
Cattle farmer Donovan Marx, 50, was alone inside his home after his wife Louise had left for work on Wednesday when two men attacked one of his workers in a barn.
The worker was tied up and the robbers then burst into the main farmhouse and shot Mr Marx before stabbing him in the leg.
As he collapsed in a pool of blood, the two men taunted him, held him down and then cut off his ears before slicing them into small bits!

52,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria and almost no one in the media wants to talk about it.
The attacks keep hitting Christian villages and churches while headlines bury the religion of the victims. This has been going on for years with the same pattern of silence from major outlets.
Every innocent life lost in these attacks deserves to be acknowledged, and families deserve justice regardless of their religion. What frustrates me is when people turn human suffering into an argument instead of asking how these killings can be stopped. No community should have to live in fear.
I wish the current Pope would take a stronger stance in this matter, rather than just generally condemning violence. He’s too busy having tea with his Muslim friends. It is outrageous that nothing is being done by the international community.
Any protests for this. Or no room only Palastian lives matter.
The left does not talk about it because it does not fit into their worldview and to avoid upsetting your voters from Muslim circles!

The National Party leaders did not possess some magical, predictive genius.
They simply understood a basic, universal law of civilization: if you run a country using rigorous administrative discipline, strict engineering standards, absolute meritocracy within your civil service, and a zero-tolerance policy for infrastructural neglect, the lights stay on, the trains move, and the currency holds value.
That isn't a "Western" secret or an apartheid phenomenon; it is the baseline requirement for running any industrial economy, whether in Zurich, Tokyo, or Pretoria.

🚨 WHITE FARMER’S EARS HACKED OFF IN SAVAGE TORTURE — ATTACKERS STILL FREE AND RAMAPHOSA STILL DENIES FARM MURDERS IN SOUTH AFRICA ‼️
This morning cattle farmer Donovan Marx was attacked on his farm between Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp‼️ The attackers cut off his ears, shot him in the back (doctors are still trying to remove the bullet) and stabbed him in the leg. He is fighting for his life in a Potchefstroom hospital‼️
A farm worker was tied up by the attackers but managed to free himself and raise the alarm. The attackers fled in Marx’s bakkie and remain free. VF Plus says the full details of the torture are so disturbing they refuse to publish them‼️
This is not ordinary crime, this is the same sickening pattern of extreme brutality, ears severed, severe beatings, shootings and stabbings, that has targeted white farmers for years🔥
How many more innocent farmers must be mutilated before this is treated as the crisis it is⁉️
🔥☠️How much longer will Ramaphosa keep denying the reality of what is happening on South African farms⁉️
