The entire Penguins organization joins the NHL community in mourning the loss of defenseman Lyle Odelein. Lyle played over 1,000 career NHL games for eight teams, and ultimately called Pittsburgh home upon retirement. Our condolences go out to his wife, Laurel, their children and the Odelein family. Lyle was known for his tough exterior on the ice, but we will always remember his generous heart and enormous laugh.

Make sure you read this. Sidney Crosby starts another season tonight. He’s the greatest athlete in Pittsburgh history.
And he’s not done yet.
Good morning, hockey fans. Sidney Crosby makes some more history tonight.
Most seasons in Pittsburgh, in any sport:
Sidney Crosby — 22
Willie Stargell — 21
Evgeni Malkin — 21
Kris Letang — 21
Roberto Clemente — 18
Honus Wagner — 18
Ben Roethlisberger — 18
Look at those names.
On Sid, who is basically the captain of the hockey world at this point. But most importantly to him, he’s done it all these years in the same place. Free for all to read:

One of my favorite memories with Barry. When he coached the ESPN dek hockey team I was the goalie for. Barry was a wonderful man and I’ll miss him very much. We all will. My heart goes out to his family. We all loved you Barry. 💔

🥺
Barry was my best friend at ESPN. A big brother figure of rock solid values. I am shook to my core. Barry gave his life to hockey and some of his ESPN family, like me, learned of his shocking death today while at a hockey rink in Las Vegas preparing for the upcoming season. Chilling and fitting--the rink was Barry's home. A more beloved ESPN institution there has not been. We love you, Barry. Forever.

Sad news in this afternoon - Frank Beard from ZZ Top has passed away.
Billy Gibbons: “Today, Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great and true son of Texas. His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top. The band of which he was part for six decades is going to keep on keeping on as he had wished.”
