The only recognition Madan Mohan got in his life time was the National award he got for the 1970 movie Dastak. The movie had just four songs. Three of the songs by Lataji had some finest lyrics by Majrooh and among the finest songs by Lata and Madan Mohan. This fourth lesser known songs is by Rafi in a voice dripping with sensuousness and picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Rehana Sultan. Because the film's premise involves a newlywed couple (Sanjeev Kumar and Rehana Sultan) navigating a cramped, loud apartment with nosy neighbors, Rafi recorded his vocals in an incredibly soft, intimate, near-whisper tone to fit the on-screen narrative. A pioneering mainstream Diwali song that cemented the festival's presence on the Indian silver screen. Rattan 1944 Before Rattan, Naushad Ali was a struggling composer earning a modest salary. The phenomenal, unprecedented success of Rattan’s soundtrack—anchored by this song—completely changed his fortunes. Following the movie, Naushad started charging ₹25,000 per film, a staggering amount at the time that equated to nearly one-third of an entire movie's production budget! Naushad composed the track in Raag Bhairavi, famously known as the "Queen of all Ragas," which is traditionally used to evoke deep, bittersweet emotions. Years later, actress Swaran Lata claimed in an interview with Pakistan Television that the song's incredibly catchy tune wasn’t actually composed by Naushad, but was originally hummed out and written by the lyricist D.N. Madhok himself. The track features the robust, thundering voice of Zohrabai Ambalewali, one of the most dominant playback singers of the pre-Lata Mangeshkar era. Directed by Bappie sonie The film Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati was written by screenwriter Sachin Bhowmick. A day before filmmaker Shakti Samanta was set to shoot his iconic movie Aradhana (1969), he watched a screening of Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati and was shocked to realize both films shared the exact same climax. Devastated, Samanta almost shelved Aradhana. However, writer Gulshan Nanda stepped in to help him completely rewrite and alter the second half of Aradhana, saving the film that eventually skyrocketed Rajesh Khanna to superstardom. The lead pair Shashi and Babita acted in one more movie together, Hasina maan jaayegi. This movie marked the first film that producer Surinder Kapoor (father of Boney, Anil, and Sanjay Kapoor) dedicated to the late actress Geeta Bali, who passed away from smallpox in 1965. Surinder had started his Bollywood career as her personal secretary, and she had starred in his very first production. This slide of dedication to Geeta Bali became a traditional trademark in all future movies produced by both Surinder and his son, Boney Kapoor.
