I genuinely wish there was far more urgency, coordination, and sustained pressure, especially from the media, in confronting Nigeria’s cybercrime crisis.
There’s still so much that can be done, yet very little is actually being done at the scale this problem deserves.
I honestly think the war against cybercrime is already lost. The ecosystem has grown too deep, too normalised, and too economically embedded.
What we’re doing now is mostly damage control and trying to pick up the pieces before it gets even worse.
Attended the stakeholder session on Nigeria’s new Cybersecurity Coordination Council organised by @FMCIDENigeria last week.
Nigeria is taking a step in the right direction. The real impact will come from how well all stakeholders collaborate to make it work.

Just a quick note given all the recent news about cyber attacks: please don’t try to “practice” on anyone’s systems or infrastructure. That’s illegal and WILL lead to serious consequences including jail time, and can damage your reputation long term. Stick to environments where you have clear permission and defined scope from the owners or maintainers. It’s just a friendly advice
