Before you head out for a night on the town, keep this fire safety mantra in mind: "When you go out, blow out!" It's like a superhero's catchphrase. Keep candles at least 30 cm (12 inches) from items such as curtains, books, and anything else that might easily catch fire.

Pull the plug on electrical fires. Avoid overloading the circuit with “octopus-outlet”, Use extension cords as a temporary connection only. Check electrical cords for damage such as fraying or nicks. Have a licensed electrician install additional outlets if needed. #firesafety

A big part of #FireSafety includes practicing battery safety.
Never charge your phones or electronic devices under your pillows at night. Phones, tablets & laptops should be charged by placing all devices on a hard and stable surface.

Happy International Firefighters Day to our @hanoverfd & to all firefighters who protect their communities. It's a tremendous commitment with training and certifications with no set hours in rural areas. Dangerous, crazy long hours at times & life with a pager on their hips.

Do you live in a green-light community? Support volunteer firefighters en route to an emergency by yielding the right-of-way to flashing green lights. Your consideration supports a quicker response.
