Hey, happy to announce that the RAD Debugger is now available for Linux (in alpha). It is early and preliminary! Expect random weirdnesses *for sure*, but it is ready to be played with!

Mass-scale panels on prime farmland shouldn’t be allowed. As well as being blots on beautiful countryside, it reduces food supply. Put solar on brownfields, car parks and roofs instead.

This was a surprise for us to discover.
CLOCK_MONOTONIC is not in fact the monotonic clock on Linux, but rather CLOCK_BOOTTIME.
Details:

TIL CLOCK_MONOTONIC excludes elapsed time while the system is suspended (e.g. VM migration) thanks to #tigerbeetle's code

If the Labour government remove inheritance tax relief on family farms it will decimate the farming industry.
As Farmer Bruce Jobson states:
“We are facing the worst crisis we’ve ever had in farming. This is going to be end game for many farms.”

Does anyone know someone who makes fonts professionally and may be looking for work? If yes, please recommend the person/studio here or send me an e-mail to [email protected]. Thank you!

Please sign this petition. Mass-scale acreage solar panels should not be put on prime farmland. Put them on rooftops, roads or brownfield land instead. Food security must be protected.

There's been a bunch of discussion about a design flaw in Zig related to fn arguments (pass by value vs ptr).
Martin Wickham has given a great talk on the subject at SYCL23 delineating both the problem and how the core team plans to find a solution.

The last days, i reworked the #MicroZig build interface to closely match the original build.zig interface.
This is what it needs to build firmware for a #RaspberryPi #Pico now with #Zig and get a #UF2 file.
#Embedded #software done ez.

ALT const std = @import("std"); const rp2040 = @import("rp2040"); pub fn build(b: *std.Build) void { const microzig = @import("microzig").init(b, "microzig"); const optimize = b.standardOptimizeOption(.{}); const firmware = microzig.addFirmware(b, .{ .name = "new-firmware", .target = rp2040.boards.raspberry_pi.pico, .optimize = optimize, .source_file = .{ .path = "src/empty.zig" }, }); microzig.installFirmware(b, firmware, .{}); }

For the last 12 years MANY gamedev educational institutions have focused their courses on specific game engines (mostly Unity), many of those students, now devs, will need to learn other low-level technologies in a hurry, it could be tough. Schools should learn a lesson from this

Probably a good moment to repost this 3-year-old article about great games made with CUSTOM ENGINES.
Kind reminder that creating a small custom engine to FIT your game needs is still an option and probably less costly than you expect. 😉
