Most of the time, I convert my essays into threads on here for easier sharing, but with this one, which has been in drafts for months, I realized it would be, like, 70 tweets -- so, I decided to keep it as only an essay. And I'm proud of this one!

The elements and scores didn't matter with UKR Oleksandr Nazarova and Maksym Nikitin in rhythm dance today. She wore blue. He gold. New music to reflect their lot: "Strangers are coming. They come to your house. They kill you all."
Standing ovation. Tears through it all.

Reach out to relatives on both sides of your family to learn about your ancestors and past events. Keepers of family photos and documents may point you toward good stories.

(1/4) A terrible tragedy is unfolding before the world. @UWaterloo and all of academia play a vital role in preserving democracy by offering a safe place for free inquiry. The unprovoked assault on Ukraine and its people represents an assault on democracy and these values.

This cannot be just a local story. Waterloo Catholic District School Board called police on a 4 year old. Anyone who would think that this is ok needs to be fired. We need @Sflecce and the Ministry of Education to step in here- how young do our kids have to be before they matter?

Beyond disrespectful to see one of these “protestors” holding an “every child matters” flag while pushing children to the front lines.

Like in tennis or golf, women's #FigureSkating outfits are culturally-enforced gender markers because the sports themselves are identically performed by men.

Ottawa is occupied by a far-right mob today because social media companies have let hate and dis/misinformation grow for years. When we let them self-regulate, Canadians get misled, enraged, and absorbed into the far-right. We have a piece of the solution. antihate.ca/ottawa_occupatio…

Canada isn't perfect but never have I seen such widely dispersed expressions of hate in the country I love. Being BIPOC, PWD, Indigenous, Jew/Muslim or even a HC worker shouldn't compromise one's right to respect & safety. Being human should be enough.
