After brain injury it's hard to find the right words to make an explanation so we default to 'it's ok" or "I'm fine" even if we aren't. If you know a survivor, there could be more going on than they say. #braininjury #invisibledisability #itsokaynottobeokay

Some ways to manage stress are To avoid- if there is no other choice, avoid situations. Plan- Anticipate what will happen so it doesn't take you by surprise. Learn to spot the signs before stress and anxiety build up. Learn to disconnect from the situation
In stressful situations our capacity to think gets worse ( we cant do things that we do easily when we are relaxed)
Doing things - such as making more mistakes now then before the brain injury. and personal safety- situations that can remind you of circumstances of the brain injury.
Last Friday we enjoyed a talk on Managing stress after a brain injury. We would like to share some of the key points that were discussed. After a brain injury many everyday situautions can be stressful, these are a few Dealing with other people Doing things-
#simple #straightforward #predictable. #Braininjury is none of those things. Some days will be better, some will be worse. Every day - good or bad will eventually be over w/opportunity for the next to be better. &if it isn't better, at least it'll be a different day.

This is brain injury. I look busy. I probably look a little crazy. But it's kind a like spinning my wheels. So much effort but not much progress. Mostly because I forgot which direction I was moving in to begin with #braininjury #braininjuryawareness #executivefunction

- Finally consider attending a day centre where you can meet other people who are in a similar situation to yourself.
1
-Consider volunteering, which can be very rewarding, allowing you to develop skills while meeting people who share your interests.
-Get outside if you can - fresh air is good for mental health, and small day-to-day interactions such as saying hello to people who pass by can help you to feel less isolated.

Isolation after brain injury is extremely common, on the next couple of slides are a few bullet points which may help -If you are isolated at home, make a list of things you want to do and the goals you want to reach, big or small, to give your days structure and purpose.
