— @CarlyRaeJepsen on the inspiration behind ‘Hold Me To The Light’: “Grief has visited my life, and I’ve experienced traumas that I have unpacked in my music—sometimes metaphorically or lightly. A hard part of going through difficult times is the shame that can wrap around it, or the feeling that you can’t unpack it with anyone. For me, true intimacy requires full, complete truth, and this song was my way of expressing that.” (29secrets.com/pop-culture/co…)

— @CarlyRaeJepsen on the inspiration behind ‘Amalfi Coast’: “It’s a reflection of a previous meaningful relationship from my youth. We remained friends for a very long time, but I wanted to revisit him in my imagination with some perspective and offer an apology. It ended because we had two different ideas of how we wanted to live our lives. After that breakup, I took a solo journey to the Amalfi Coast and imagined him there with me, having a final goodbye dance. It happened because I wanted a breakup song that felt beautiful rather than sad.” (29secrets.com/pop-culture/co…)
