This one almost brings me to tears. This is the reason I joined Holo -- to help see things like this come into existence. The story of how they used the logic of the system, which only sees value when it can be extracted, to protect and value life, is inspiring.
Holo Ventures × Kwaxala 🌲 Most investment in nature still treats a forest as an asset only because it can be cut down tomorrow. Kwaxala has flipped that logic right-side up again. It’s an Indigenous majority-owned regenerative forestry network and fund, established by a First Nation in British Columbia and now working globally. Its Living Forest Shares tie investment returns to the forest staying alive, so capital only thrives if the ecosystem does. Capital built to care. We’re collaborating with Kwaxala’s product team to explore how peer-to-peer value and identity tools can serve Indigenous Nations, supporting local self-governance and new ways to coordinate bioregional economies. Why #Holochain? Kwaxala’s model needs both sovereignty and coordination at scale. Control stays with the Nations and communities who nurture the forest. Each participant holds their own data, identity, and connections, and trust is built peer to peer, not handed to a central platform. Relation, not domination, built into the protocol. Unyt adds shared-ledger accounting, so value moves between participants without an intermediary taking a cut. Holo’s distributed infrastructure may follow as the work grows. Early-stage prototyping. More to come. Welcome to the Decent Directory, Kwaxala. 👇 holoventures.io/product/#dec…

just keeping the RT-nesting going... the big question that keeps coming back to me is, what's the 'hook' that enables people to flock to an alternative en masse? I don't know the answer, but I think it looks like sthg we already use but is secretly quite different.
Money’s institutions form a reinforcing loop. We live in the curves of its intestines. Same digestion, same recirculation. Programming another metabolism is possible ....... just not the one that already swallowed us.

Recipe conversion tip for all you gardeners: When a recipe says "only 5 minutes prep!", simply convert that to "30 minutes to clean, peel, and chop all those stupid tiny carrots/onions/taters that were too small to put in the cold cellar but you didn't have the heart to toss"

"and then you can start with your 'only' 5 minutes prep"

A provocatively grounded response to an interesting piece of 'sanctuary tech' software from the Gitcoin folks. Super interested in where this will all head.
Replying to @owocki @gitcoin
“Have we earned it?” i think the most compelling answer will come from lived experience rather than product metrics. What I'm really looking forward to are pictures, stories, and tangible impacts of you using your own tech in your own community. Who showed up? What happened when people met? Did new friendships form, trust grow, local projects get funded, or people start showing up for each other in new ways? I keep thinking of localism as cultivating social soil: the trust, relationships, reciprocity, and commitments from which a thriving community can grow. The technology can provide the rails, but the real question is whether it helps that social soil become richer and more alive. ... So yes to dogfooding, but even more to dogliving! I'd love to see you actually living this stuff with your neighbors, sharing the awkward moments, surprises, successes, and failures along the way. Maybe that's how we really earn it. When the story becomes less about the app and more about the life growing around it.

What if availability of care was the measure of wealth instead of money?
🩺 What if doctors could accept more than money for healthcare? Imagine a doctor offering a consultation while a patient contributes gardening, teaching, transport, or another useful service through a community commitment pool. Through Cosmo-Local Credit, we're exploring how medical vouchers, reciprocal exchange, and mutual aid could help communities make better use of the care and resources they already have. Inspired by my search for healthcare for my daughter, I've written Healthcare Commons for Doctors and Patients. Could this work in the US? What about taxes, medical ethics, and regulation? I'm inviting doctors, dentists, healthcare lawyers, accountants, patients, and mutual-aid organizers to help us build the foundations for a small, responsible pilot. 🌱 What if more healthcare could begin with a promise to care? willruddick.substack.com/p/h…

If you have an idea for something to be built on @Holochain, don’t wait for someone else to build it. Find a dev and get them excited. #adoptAdev Or reach out to @Holo_Ventures
What some people don’t understand about @Holochain. Big companies won’t invest in it because its whole purpose is to give power and value to the end users. Uber or Airbnb will never use Holochain because it removes their extractive abilities.

Overheard on the Holo Telegram chat: "This is the thing that's actually most insane is the team are basically building the most difficult part and open sourcing it while leaving the biggest revenue areas for people to grab." 🧵 1/?

So they know what they're talking about. I've seen this everywhere lately -- when the hard problems are figured out, people just build cool things that just work. Despite my general AI scepticism, Holochain + AI coding agents are opening some interesting doors.

(And it's taken us a bloody long time to figure out the hard parts, so you'd better use what we've built! Turns out the hard parts were harder than we thought)

.@H_O_L_O_ is making serious progress in this space. They’ve learned from past challenges, evolved and made significant progress over the past few years. Definitely a project worth watching. Their token $HOT may have found its bottom and from here, the only way is up 🚀
"My job is to find a way for all of us — you included — to make money." As Holochain matures into a viable framework and Unyt and Holo hosting roll out payment and hosting infrastructure, the question becomes, how do we make a living doing good work? That's why we brought on Cameron to lead Holo Ventures.

Zero relevance to this stage of my life for "meeting a girl" purposes, but will remain perpetually relevant for "being a decent human towards women" purposes. Thank you for the advice!
As a woman who generally gets approached in annoying ways, HOW you do the approaching matters and is what makes the experience acceptable vs. annoying or creepy. Examples that would work on me: "Nice purse." (When she says thanks tell her you have the same one at home with a straight face so she laughs. If you make a girl laugh your get a 3x charisma modifier for 60 seconds.) "I see you're looking ready to leave, if I offer to grab you another coffee would you want to chat for a few or are you taking off?" (Gives her a graceful out - read safety - respectful, etc) "I see you're reading ___, do you want to know a fun fact about the book?" (Since you probably don't know the book, make one up. When she says "really?" tell her no, but you couldn't think of a good pick up line. Girls like humor, charm, relatability, and admitting you find her hot in a "makes me nervous" kind of way rather than a "I want to fuck you" kind of way) Also, basic understanding of women's experience in public goes a long way. Don't approach in a way she can't easily walk away, ie face to face if possible. Don't block the exit. Women often feel naturally safer if there are other people around when approached, so stepping between her and them can raise her anxiety. You have to understand that these are survival instincts that keep her safe - she doesn't know you and has to be automatically calculating your threat level the second you approach, so being cognizant of that reality can actually up your chances. Pay attention to her body language - not making eye contact, pointing her body away, etc is a sign she's not comfortable. If this happens frequently, it just means you need to improve your approach, which you can either take as a life sentence to be resentful, or toughen up and use it as a learning opportunity. Rejection is part of learning and is just a reflection of that interaction and that person's individual interest, not your ability to be a good partner.

So important that I want to re-repost this. It puzzles me that we report on extremely concrete steps that show how our software framework is progressing and solving problems, and people respond with claims that we need to show concrete steps. Did you not just read the post???

And yes, getting HOT listed on more exchanges would help make it more accessible for people who want to use it, but that's an accessory to the real work, which is BUILDING SOMETHING THAT IMPROVES PEOPLE'S LIVES.

I'm sorry that you can't see how this kind of progress is exactly one of the concrete steps that support HOT.

In 8 days, I've been developing with Holochain for 1 year. For at least 95% of the days, I've spent an average of 12 hours a day building @WeAreFlowsta & @YourOwnAI I literally dream of Holochain now, and the number of aha moments I've had in the past year since I started developing with it has taken me from being a fan to being in awe of it. I'm pinching myself at what we've already built, but what we get to build in this base gives me the drive to get up, have a coffee, and start building every day. Accepting HoloFuel, where we currently accept US dollars, was made a long time before I spoke to anyone from Holochain about it. I'm blessed to be behind one of the first orgs that will. When you really start to learn about money and how currency debasement is theft on us all. It doesn't take a genius to realise how radically different asset-backed currencies would change everything. We're at a time where digging up shiny metals to be that asset-backed currency is pretty silly in the age of compute. It's been a long journey to get here, and there are still a lot of steps ahead for us all to take this mainstream. Regardless of how many orgs, big or small, sign on to accept HoloFuel over the coming months, it's all about how many of us start using it ourselves. Whether it's on Flowsta products or services or not, I hope to see the community start using it and then telling others. Once the tech is available to use, usage and word of mouth are literally the way any tech adoption has ever happened and will happen. Blessed are all of us who will be the early adopters of HoloFuel. Not often does an opportunity like this come along.
Our audacious goals for what we're building around data, auth, and permissions (for Humans and AIs) are impossible to build without Holochain. HoloFuel is the Mutual Credit Currency backed by compute that underpins it all. Accepting HoloFuel is such a no-brainer for us.
