Reserve Bank gets political and screws scrum against new left Government
The decisions not to rise the OCR is a political decision in two parts.
1 – It saves the current Government from hurting voters just before the election.
2 – It means if there is a new Left Government there will be a .5 rise on the horizon just in case the Greens get their way with extra spending.
By not raising today, it sets in motion the need for the Reserve Bank to move it up by .5 points to 3.25% to stop any Left wing spending if the Right lose the election.
