Something you might find surprising and that is becoming misconstrued, but composing/writing and performing/recording your own music has nothing to do with production. They run alongside each other but are 2 very different things.

Far too many artists with serious career goals rush into the technical stages of a production and go 'into the studio' too early without the experience or the more important musical aspects of their performance properly prepared.
