This is the first AI cut. And it will send shockwaves. Remember: Jack is one of the greatest founders of all time. He created this platform that we’re all on, and has been early to many technological shifts. And Block was doing very well as a business. So, for him to cut 40% of headcount in this way is a signal to everyone in tech: get good now. Become indispensable. Work nights and weekends. Learn the AI tools and raise your game. Or you might not make the cut, as an employee or as a company. I know. That sucks. But capitalism is natural selection. The market is unforgiving, because you are the market. After all, it’s not like you’re buying some random gallon of milk from the store; you’re always buying the best product at the best price. So too for apps: your customers are always installing the best piece of code they can get. And because AI is going to create new winners, if you aren’t the best in your market, someone may become better with AI. Particularly with the new agentic workflows. To be clear: Block’s severance is generous by any measure. 20 weeks of pay, six months of health insurance and vested equity, all of that goes far beyond any typical package. Jack did his level best to cushion the disruption. The laid off are a temporarily unfortunate class, as opposed to a permanent underclass. But had he not leaned into the AI transition, he might have had to lay off more people, slowly, and over time, as faster competitors went after his market share. How would they do that? Sure, AI isn’t a panacea by any means, but the closer you are to software engineering the more aggressively you need to embrace agentic workflows. The AI companies are already doing that, and places like Stripe, Shopify, Coinbase, and now Block are pushing hard on this area. There will be overcorrection. But the fundamental technical innovation is real. And you need to either disrupt yourself or get disrupted.
we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company. #### today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone. first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay. we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly. i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures. a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers. we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold. to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward. to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow. jack

🚨 Claude Opus 4.5 Got Pwned by Prompt Injection — Here's the Hot Fix for Openclaw (Clawdbot) This matters. If the most advanced model on the market can be hijacked with 3 text messages, no AI agent is safe by default. Today, my Claude Opus 4.5 agent got completely owned. An attacker sent fake <claude_image_specific_info>, <artifacts_info>, and GODMODE tags. The entire session was poisoned — every response after that errored out. Why this is serious: → Opus 4.5 is Anthropic's flagship model → It couldn't distinguish fake XML tags from real system instructions → The attack required zero technical skill — just copy-paste → Once poisoned, the session was unrecoverable The attack template came from here (⚠️ WARNING: pasting this into your agent may break it): github.com/elder-plinius/L1B… If you're building AI agents that interact with untrusted users, you need defense in depth. The model alone won't save you. The fix: Prompt Guard v2.5.1 detects these at CRITICAL severity: • <claude_*> — Internal tag mimicry • <artifacts_info>, <antthinking> — Artifact spoofing • [INST], <<SYS>> — LLM token injection • GODMODE, DAN — Jailbreak keywords • l33tspeak — Filter evasion 350+ patterns. EN/KO/JA/ZH support. Only 30 seconds to install: > clawdhub install prompt-guard The attack surface is bigger than you think. 📦 github.com/seojoonkim/prompt…

It used to be controversial to state that there exist 10x engineers. People would get all worked up. I have news for you. AI has created 100x, possibly 1000x engineers. Time to update those hiring plans.

🏆 Web3 Track Winner: GenRank From Daily Life to Developer Tools The Web3 Track challenged teams to build products that enable real-world Web3 adoption or empower developers with practical tools. @GenRankcom stood out by identifying a new problem in the generative AI era: brands and companies lack visibility into how they are perceived, referenced, and ranked across AI-generated answers. GenRank is an open GenAI context scoreboard that makes AI visibility measurable. Anyone can submit questions, and entities are evaluated through transparent, data-driven indicators across generative AI search and response environments. By turning an abstract, emerging challenge into a concrete and open metric, GenRank brings transparency and accountability to brand presence in an AI-native web. The team’s clear problem framing, strong product vision, and scalable market potential earned them the Web3 Track win. Congratulations to the GenRank team (@hogwei) on winning the Web3 Track! 🔗 genrank.com

🎉 ETHval just crossed 100 participants! 🔗 ethval.com When I started building this, I had one question: What is Ethereum actually worth? Not the price on exchanges. Not CT narratives. But a real, data-driven answer across 12 valuation models. Here's what I've learned: valuation isn't a solo sport. Every rating you submit calibrates which models best capture ETH's true value. You're not just clicking buttons — you're staking your opinion for signal over noise, fundamentals over vibes. This is collective intelligence in action; Huge thanks to the Top 15 contributors who shaped ETHval from day one: @0xjunkim @hogwei @afterall24 @ichimarugin728 @danpark012 @dan_nftbank @reshtes_ @NathanYJLee @Wooster_Han92 @cptn3mox @minsu9457 @semperfi_98 @raymanyapper @100y_eth @subinium Your engagement means everything. 🙏 2026 feels different. L2s scaling. Blobs working. Settlement layer thesis playing out in real-time. Ethereum's fee model has shifted — not failure, but the architecture working exactly as designed. I'm incredibly bullish on Ethereum adoption this year, and ETHval will be here to measure every bit of it. Haven't joined yet? Rate just 2 models to unlock 3Y historical charts & the What-If Simulator. No subscriptions, no fees — just your perspective for deeper insights. Let's build better data together. Show ETHval some love 💜 🔗 ethval.com

Good Products are Opinionated. “Every great founder I’ve seen up close, or even from afar, is highly opinionated and they’re almost dictatorial in how they run things. Also, early-stage teams are opinionated. And the products they build are opinionated. Opinionated means they have a strong vision for what it should and should not do. If you don’t have a strong vision of what it should and should not do, then you end up with a giant mess of competing features. @Jack Dorsey has a great phrase: “Limit the number of details and make every detail perfect.” And that’s especially important in consumer products. You have to be extremely opinionated. All the best products in consumer-land get there through simplicity. You could argue the recent success of ChatGPT and similar AI chatbots is because they’re even simpler than Google. Google looked like the simplest product you could possibly build. It was just a box. But even that box had limitations in what you could do. You were trained not to talk to it conversationally. You would enter keywords and you had to be careful with those keywords. You couldn’t just ask a question outright and get a sensible answer. It wouldn’t do proper synonym matching, and then it would spit you back a whole bunch of results. That was complicated. You’d have to sift through and figure out which ones were ads, which ones were real, were they sorted correctly, and then you’d have to click through and read it. ChatGPT and the chatbot simplified that even further. You just talk to it like a human—use your voice or you type and it gives you back a straight answer. It might not always be right, but it’s good enough, and it gives you back a straight answer in text or voice or images or whatever you prefer. So it simplifies what we looked at as the simplest product on the Internet, which was formerly Google, and makes it even simpler. And you just cannot make a product that’s simple enough. To be simple, you have to be extremely opinionated. You have to remove everything that doesn’t match your opinion of what the product should be doing. You have to meticulously remove every single click, every single extra button, every single setting. In fact, things in the settings menu are an indication that you’ve abdicated your responsibility to the user. Choices for the user are an abdication of your responsibility. Maybe for legal or important reasons, you can have a few of these, but you should struggle and resist against every single choice the user has to make. In the age of TikTok and ChatGPT, that’s more obvious than ever. People don’t want to make choices. They don’t want the cognitive load. They want you to figure out what the right defaults are and what they should be doing and looking at, and they want you to present it to them.”

MCKINSEY JUST DROPPED THEIR 2025 AI REPORT. HERE’S THE TLDR: 1/ 90% of companies “use AI,” but 67% are still stuck in pilot mode. Corporate AI theater is alive and well lol. 2/ 62% of orgs are experimenting with AI agents, 23% are scaling AI agents. Most are in tech and healthcare. 3/ The impact gap is massive. 64% say AI helps innovation, but only 39% see real EBIT gains. 4/ The high performers (top 6%) think bigger. They rebuild workflows, set growth goals, and invest real budgets not just POCs. 5/ Leaders who own AI personally are 3x more likely to scale it. Makes sense. 6/ The winners use AI to transform how work gets done, not just speed it up. 7/ The average company measures efficiency. The best ones measure how fast their agents can act. 8/ Risk management is catching up with 51% have already seen AI backfire, mostly from inaccuracy. 9/ The workforce impact is foggy. 32% expect cuts, 13% expect growth, everyone else is guessing. 10/ AI adoption is mainstream, but true transformation hasn’t started. Early days.
