yes litRPG is a stain on the medium of the written word, but i find it more interesting to imagine which authors could actually write a litRPG book that rises above the level of "total dogshit".
my votes would be terry pratchett and greg egan, for very different reasons.

It always makes the fantastical elements so fucking mundane. Being a wizard is just a type of job that's entirely equivalent in power to a regular big guy with a sword, because that's how rpg classes work. There's none of the mystique of Gandalf (or Merlin before him)

the like generation loss that occurs in translating tolkienesque fantasy into dnd, into wizardry, into dragon quest, into this kind of thing really fascinates me because its ended up with some of the most boring and flanderized fantasy worldbuilding ever

Like I thought the whole point was the creativity of imagining a very different universe, not just turning "grinding in an mmo" into a narrative

I'm really not a fan of how much "fantasy" media these days takes place in a video game world that operates according to video game logic

Shit like this is why Canada has laws limiting political campaign ads to pretty much just being "Hi, I'm (blank) and here are my explicit policy positions"

Saw someone wearing a "SARCASTIC COMMENT LOADING..." shirt and another person wearing one that read "SORRY, IT'S TOO PEOPLE OUTSIDE"
I am reading old accounts of the first hackers at MIT, and I find myself struck by how the computer was seen as such a clear land of enchantment, an extension of the human imagination, and a new home for the boldest dreams of mankind.
AI need not be any different, but we must resist attempts to mundanify the technology by those who insist it is "just a tool" or somehow normal. This enchantment must also somehow live in symbiosis with our own right to self-determination.
There is a world where the eyes of the machines are used alongside our own eyes to look at the stars and chart a course, instead of being used to watch over an increasingly disempowered mankind. The dream of coevolution stays alive in me, and I hope to inspire you to take up the cause, as well. If we all work together to convince the Human Overmind not to give up and return to the womb, I think we stand a chance at a true symbiotic future.

Annoying millionaire loser learns the programming language for making RPG Maker games, and goes on a bunch of podcasts to deny the results of a lifetime of sex positive civil rights and anticapitalist struggle when the programming machine lets him write in languages with actual use. Very cool.

When the Blender Guru tells you to subscribe to his overpriced texture library to follow along with his tutorials, please be reminded that copyright is a relic, and that for most things, especially learning and internet shitposts, you should just grab stuff for free.
