1) Oct. 10, 2025 was crypto’s largest liquidation event: more than $19B in derivatives positions were liquidated across 1.6M traders in 24 hours. The scale was market-wide. The speed was visible venue by venue.

3) Liquidation protects lenders by closing undercollateralized positions. But it makes the borrower’s outcome depend on every price point during the loan—not only the collateral value at maturity. One violent price path can permanently sell long-term collateral.

4) Awakening takes a different approach: price downside protection upfront in the options market, without interim liquidation. Its cost is embedded in the fixed rate. Settlement happens at maturity, so a temporary price wick alone does not force collateral to be sold.

Morpho Midnight made fixed-rate, fixed-maturity credit composable. Hyperloop builds on that foundation and changes the protection layer: each loan opens with a maturity-matched put, moving downside protection to origination and removing interim liquidation.

At maturity: min(S, K) + max(K − S, 0) = K Collateral value plus the put payoff covers the protected strike value. The lender does not need an interim liquidation engine to enforce that payoff.

1) Liquidation protects lenders. But for fixed-term borrowers, it creates path risk: a temporary drawdown can end the loan even if collateral recovers before maturity. Awakening takes a different approach, it prices downside protection upfront with a maturity-matched put option, without interim liquidation.

6) Awakening moves lender protection from the middle of the loan to its origination. Each loan opens with a put matched to its underlying, strike, notional, and maturity. At maturity, the collateral value and put payoff jointly support lender repayment.

7) Non-liquidative does not mean risk-free. The fixed rate includes the put cost. Smart-contract, maturity-oracle, PAT-source, settlement, and shortfall risks remain. Awakening removes one specific risk: forced collateral sale before maturity due to an interim price move.

3) But it changes the nature of the loan for the borrower. The outcome depends not only on the collateral value at maturity, but on every price point along the way. A fixed-term loan becomes a path-dependent position.

4) Illustrative example: BTC starts at $100,000, falls to $70,000, then recovers to $90,000 before maturity. Its terminal value may cover the debt. But if liquidation occurred during the drawdown, the recovery does not restore collateral already sold.
