A major United Nations climate report says, for the first time, that the world has lost its chance to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. That was a key goal of the 2015 Paris climate accord aimed at limiting the worst effects of the climate crisis.
The annual Emissions Gap Report published Wednesday still found that steep cuts to deforestation and greenhouse gas pollution could limit the severity and duration of the expected "overshoot" of the 1.5 degree target.
The report comes ahead of global climate talks next month in Turkey, known as COP31.
I watched this summer as all the climate science folks I follow started worrying about the summer heat and the El Niño we would get this year. No my timeline is nothing but floods and fires. I’m overwhelmed. It’s like a pipe bust in the basement and the kitchen is on fire.

People must understand that the general public are in denial about how serious climate change is.
A very intelligent friend of mine basically was gently ribbing me about all the things I said that we’re going to happen, which haven’t happened, according to them - which wasn’t true. I’ve pointed out the things that are coming in decades.
I mentioned this summer - ? - and was told yes, it was quite hot, I’ll give you that.
People don’t understand we are at the beginning of unprecedented, historic, deadly, global change and nothing will be the same again.
We must stop lying to ourselves that people understand.

If you call Film LA, the very first option is to report a production you think should be shut down for not having a permit.
The third option is to try and get a permit. If you don't get your application in my 10am a week before the shoot, they will not process your application. Not 10:05, not 12pm. Must be in by 10am. When you speak to the person at Film LA, they truly sound like they don't even want you to shoot there.
I hope whoever our next mayor is shuts down Film LA and makes it free and easy to get a permit.
LA has the best crews, the best casts, the best weather. It shouldn't be cheaper and easier to fly to Oklahoma and shoot there than it is to shoot at home. It's time to bring filmmaking back to LA.
