Fairs. Some further thoughts: Maybe it’s a problem with the process or the metrics, much like the Ballon d’Or. And, tied to the Accra-centredness of it all, my view is that talk shows are relatively low-hanging fruit.

Tbf, I'm not sure of the others, but I was semi-active the year Bernard won it, and it was a no-brainer. His advocacy, pressure on the government to do the right thing, and the changes that came about from his hosting that year was very impressive. So I think the same cuts across

But also, I think this turn towards talk show hosts is a distraction. It easily becomes about something else. For me, any number of footsoldier journalists working in our developmental state deserve the Best Journalist award any given year over show hosts and analysts.

I may have a tiny tiny tiny tiny room for fairness sake, for exceptional accomplishments in a calendar year for the latter.

There’s even something to be said for a talk show if it advanced public discourse or accountability meaningfully, beyond playing referee/timekeeper. Talk show hosts can have talk show hosts of the year. GJA should be critiquing agents of the centre, not handing them JoY awards.
This nonsense has been going on for long. Makes absolutely no sense. Samson Lardi, Bernard Avle, Kwame Sefa Kayi, now OB. Mind you these guys are some of my favourites. But awarding Journalist of the Year to people who just sit in studio n interview NPP/NDC reps is a joke

Why? There’s not a single talk show host who wins the journalist of the year award in my books. Not Kwame Sefa Kayi, Bernard Avle or Samson Lardi when they won it, and certainly not O.B. now.

As an adjacent point, it’s a strongly held view of mine that, if we could find a prudent way to measure it, we’d discover that trust is stronger in the oral realm, and that writing chips away at it.

There are things more important than documentation, as important as the latter is in our age. You will not learn by just reading. You will learn by doing and being. Reading is incredibly useful, but it is not ultimate.

Kalyjay is misread. In fact, it is very easy to misanalyse him, especially if you don’t account for his capacity—Lord knows I want to say depth—for these matters. I’ll bet this is his serious, honest, simplistic, view of it. Added to being a shadow comms operative for Gov’t.
LOL You will see a common structure in Kalyjay’s recent advocacy. Always find a way to shift social responsibility onto individuals instead of the government or state. If it isn't telling individuals to quit real estate and invest in health care, it's about shifting the burden of maintaining order from government to individuals and companies. Somehow, FixYourSelf is now an attractive theory. The government appears to be doing its best; now, individuals must share in the blame.

In many ways, he’s guilty of something similar to what @kwahmi captured in this rather apt description of another: teapawt.net/kwahmi/status/21151416… But it’s good to engage him regardless. We can dismiss bad ideas through him.
Her crime is she has intentionally + actively learned to not have the depth it requires for the responsibilities of the thought leadership role she is so eager to fill. You don't need to have the gift of the gab to reach people with sincere advice if you genuinely care.

I just reckon it’s a much simpler issue with him, and not very surprising at all.

Aside from activism and public commentary, I sometimes pretend to talk theory. Join me on November 14. Let us meet and discuss whether we owe legal or moral duties to the living and the dead. What moral, political, or meta-legal theory could inform the existence of such duties, and what is their scope?
Do we owe any responsibility to people who have died? What about those who are not yet born? And should our individual freedoms sometimes give way to the interests of society? dennislawnews.com/article/do… @dennislaw_ghana @dennislawnews

Y’all are just idiots for letting Russell Brand even attempt to sell this fraudulent version of himself 😂 The former atheists turned cultural christian brigade, from Dawkins to this imbecile, are just crooks of different cloths
I remember thinking at the time that if he was this fake about his supposed devotion to the Bible, what else could we believe?

Toponymy for Trotro Fare 1. “Ablekuma aba kuma wɔ”, let foreigners come and be part of us, or so Gãmei say. 2. So, even Alhaji Braimah came from Ilorin in far country Nigeria, found a foothold in colonial Accra, where he would become a prominent leader of the migrant community and owner of prime Accra land. 3. The land, resting idly on a hilly area reserved by the British administration to drain away colonial Accra’s sewerage into the deep ocean, became a new settlement to house the newcomers. 4. And soon, it would find a name: Tudu. From the Hausa for a hill, high ground or elevation. 5. And it was there, in Tudu, that many itinerant Muslim migrants would find a home when they came to Accra to trade and settle. Dagombas, Kotokolis, Yorubas, Hausas, Gonjas, and more, would set up residences here, trading in kola nuts and shea butter, cattle and whatnot. 6. This is one of countless tales about Accra's place names. Many others wait to be told. 7. Like who got lost in Mayera? Did anyone choose to die on Mataheko's hill? And who were the 'squatters' at Kotobabi? Did Apenkwa give life to any refugees or fleeing slaves? What songs were folks dancing to in Alajo? Where really is Accra located? And why does one still take a trotro to Accra, even when one lives in Madina, Legon, Osu, Labadi, etc., in 'Accra'? 8. For stories like these that uncover the lore behind Accra's place names, you could contribute photos of your Accra neighbourhood or share tales of how its name came to be by emailing [email protected] 9. And if you have none to tell or share, that's also fine. Relax and wait for the release of Toponymy for Trotro Fare. It promises countless insights and colourful snapshots of the mystery that is many an Accra place name.

In fact it was while watching this presentation live on Wontumi tv that we thought: no way he's giving a galamsey kingpin a sustainable development award under the hand of the UN. It was that easy to spot the fraud.
