I was at Johnson’s Lock at the Regent’s Canal in London and saw this very prominent heron. It then flew to the balcony of some nearby flats and perched near a mop. I would love to have been here when the occupants opened their balcony door!
Some birds I saw in the beautiful St James’s Park in London a few days ago: young great white pelican; black swan; mute swan cygnets being fed; grey heron
A couple of photos from late afternoon yesterday in Theale near Reading. Hosehill Lake and the Kennet & Avon Canal
I visited the bird feeding area by the Thames at Caversham Bridge. The highlight was this beautiful Muscovy duck. I also saw a common gull by a boat platform, the only one among many 10s of black-headed gulls. Also a large cygnet and a white domestic goose
Great to be back in St James’s Park in London and to have good views of the young pelicans which are now huge! Also mute swan and black swan.
Horses and foals at Port Meadow in Oxford yesterday. The foals enjoy lying on the ground and snoozing. It is hard work being a cute foal
Some photos from Llandudno beach. I was on holiday then in early June so missed a London heatwave. The first photo is the pier and the Great Orme, and the third is the Little Orme
As it’s the Feast Day of St Bartholomew, I visited the church of St Bartholomew the Great in London. A few years ago, I watched the King’s Coronation here on a screen. St Bartholomew was one of the apostles and died horribly as depicted in a gruesome sculpture by Damien Hirst.
Morning @stoughton_p, here are some photos of the Kennet when it reaches the Thames at Reading. Is this the sort of material you need? Some photo angles aren’t easily available because of the foot and pedestrian bridges and some irritating fencing.
Some London park birds in today’s sun: grey heron and pochard with duckling at St James’s Park; herring gull and swan family at Hyde Park
It was nice to see this swan family with 5 cygnets at Thames Valley Business Park in Reading yesterday. This pair regularly have 5 cygnets a year.
