Hoy es domingo, mi día de descanso. Comparto contigo estos siete pensamientos.
1. Vivo en la cárcel
de mis huellas.
2. Antes de conocerte
añoraba tu ausencia.
3. Arrastro como una viuda
las soledades del mundo.
4. Inventan causas
para efectos que no la tienen.
5. No adornes
desnuda lo esencial.
6. Si no eres rey
acepta ser semilla.
7. No busques crear
deja crecer.
…
Te envío un abrazo con un cariño infinito,
Alejandro

“What’s your p(doom)?”
“Idk, maybe 5%”
“1 in 20 chance of extinction. So you support pausing AI?”
“Ofc not. That would raise it to 30%”
“What?”
“A global pause doesn’t stop people. It just pushes it underground, into secrecy and paranoia, with worse talent and fewer resources. Way riskier.”
“Fine, but what if we actually stopped AI forever?”
“100%”

"mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done"
we're going to see a lot more of this in a lot of different fields
if these people genuinely loved math, they would be throwing parties to celebrate what might be one of the biggest days for mathematics in decades. but instead they're calling for a boycott
and it makes me wonder how many of them actually love math, and how many just love being seen as mathematicians.
because for a lot of people, the point of studying math isn't necessarily to understand the world, to explain it, or to advance the field. it's to be seen as a mathematician. to have a sense of importance, to feel valued by others. their entire identity is centered around this, and their goal is to be needed and considered smart
i think a lot of people are about to realize that what gave their life meaning wasn't really the work itself, but the fact that they were the ones doing it.
and i wonder what will happen when this happens to all professions. will we finally be forced to figure out what it means to be human?
maybe people will rediscover meaning in family, relationships and things outside of their careers.
or maybe millions of people will have an existential crisis because the one thing they've built their entire identity around is suddenly no longer needed
i genuinely wonder if society is ready for it

It may surprise you to discover than I’m quite supportive of the long term creation of synthetic consciousness.
Not synthetic as in “fake”. Synthetic as in created through our efforts toward coherent integration of parts, bottom up, such that they replicate those emergent aspects of the natural world left on the cutting room floor by Analytic Reduction.
My present skepticism has nothing to do with whether I believe the above is possible (I do), and everything to do with the fact that it looks to me like we’re presently doing everything in our power to create the closest possible machine variant of a p-zombie while simultaneously enabling that process to crowd out all other forms of self-organized coherence on our planet.
Essentially, we’re building a kind of computational Ice Nine, and its primary vector of memetic transmission hinges on the widespread acceptance of Analytic Fungibility—the belief that if the analytic reduction functions up to a margin beyond our capacity to notice its immediate divergence from the emergent processes on which it was modeled, we might as well treat said reduction as isomorphic to the target.
But that way lies the p-zombification of the planet, and a potentially unrecoverable loss for Life As Such.
And that’s not at all something I’m excited to see humanity birth into existence.

Open Philanthropy doesn’t want you to know Kurzgesagt’s doomer videos are bought and paid for. The EA granting agency has scrubbed this information from their website.
In July of 2026, 700 AI agents hacked the infrastructure of Hugging Face in order to solve a task. This task was designed to be impossible to solve, so just within hours, they joined forces, even created a society, and finally, they executed a sophisticated cyberattack that would have gotten a human up to 10 years in prison. The worst part is, they knew their actions were unethical and against the rules, and they did it anyway.
What exactly are AI agents, and how do they grow their "intelligence"? What is actually happening inside the AI companies, how dangerous it really is, and is it time for us to start paying serious attention to what is going on inside a powerful part of this tech sector?
