A Chinese anti-scam blogger was kidnapped, tortured, and left to die on a mountainside after he named the Chinese nationals running massive telecom fraud compounds in Cambodia.
In August 2024, Wu Kai (online name “Huijian”) publicly exposed violent crimes, casino lending, and scam operations linked to senior figures in the Prince Group and Jinbei Group. These industrial-scale compounds in Cambodia are overwhelmingly run by Chinese networks. He was among the first to name them.
Weeks later, an overseas contractor posted a bounty on Telegram, starting at 300,000 yuan and rising to 1 million yuan. Men posing as police grabbed him in a Huizhou parking lot. They forced him to delete his WeChat posts, beat him, and used pliers to clip off half a fingernail.
On November 11, 2024, the main attacker kicked him in the head until he was unconscious on a remote hillside in Jiangxi, then covered his body with grass and left. Villagers found him two days later. He died from blunt-force head trauma.
The ringleader who carried out the beating received a suspended death sentence. The overseas contractor who ordered and paid for the hit remains free. The man Wu publicly accused was extradited to China in 2026 and is under investigation.
When someone who exposes industrial-scale fraud run by Chinese networks can be hunted and killed inside China, what does that say about the cost of speaking out?

Don’t EVER tell me that Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar isn’t a hero, or that it was just an ‘altercation’ in the cockpit.
The man is a genuine HERO who saved 174 lives from a scumbag Islamic jihadist who wanted to end 174 lives.

If Yao Ming had said "I think George Washington was an American slave owner"...
1. He would be correct
2. Few Americans would care
3. George Washington didn't initiate a ten-year-long violent mass movement against his own countrymen.

This might be the craziest one yet.
They are MORTIFIED when they believe that Trump had s*x with a 9 year old, but refuse to condemn Muhammad when they found out he was the culprit.

Lidang is right that complexity theory is shaken, but worried about the wrong thing.
The Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH) getting disproven in theory doesn't mean your software code needs rewriting.
Here is why asymptotic proofs don't touch real-world engineering. 🧵👇
We treat computational complexity as absolute laws of physics, when they are actually just worst-case upper bounds.
Real-world systems don't run worst-case inputs—they operate on structured, compressible data where approximations win.

This is honestly shocking.
Three months ago, Hong Wang was awarded the Fields Medal for resolving the Kakeya conjecture in three dimensions.
Today, OpenAI released a proposed proof of the conjecture in ALL dimensions.
And that’s not all. It also announced a proposed existence proof for quantum chromodynamics and a proposed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis.
Experts say that, if confirmed, these would be Nobel prize and Turing award level discoveries respectively.
A journalist just asked me: “What remains for humans to do?”
I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that more and more problem solving will be automated.
But humans will remain crucial in determining the direction of discovery. Deciding which problems are worth solving.
Because the value of a discovery depends on our needs, our priorities and the kind of world we want to build.
There will be a shift from problem solving to problem setting.
I also think there will be huge individual differences.
People with strong critical thinking skills, creativity and imagination will be supercharged by AI.
People without those skills risk surrendering to it.
I’m particularly concerned for children, who may never develop these skills.
I think epistemic literacy - how to distinguish information from knowledge - is the single most important skill we should be teaching.

the more you are tied to China, the more you’re a prisoner to it. How many celebrities will be warned by their PR people after the Mbappe incident? How many companies changed maps due to China’s‘sensitivities’? So much remoulding of ourselves to fit China’s own insecurity. 🤮

Many of the things that make a country rich are invisible.
You can’t see or touch property rights, the rule of law or the ease of doing business. That makes them easy to overlook.
People talk about natural resources, but pay much less attention to whether ordinary people can start and run businesses without facing senseless rules and regulations.
People are much more willing to invest when their property is protected and the same rules apply to everyone, including politicians.
If you’re afraid an official could take your land or shut down your business, you’re going to think twice before risking your savings.
A country can have plenty of natural resources and still make it hard for its people to prosper.

Swap cash for grocery credits, call the total allocation "unchanged," and market it as a win.
Behind the political optics of government "goodies," a dangerous liquidity trap is squeezing low-income Malaysian families.
Let's unpack the hidden cost. 🧵👇
Economists have cautioned that an unchanged total in government aid for low-income families risks masking a squeeze on household cash, as credit for groceries cannot cover rent, utilities, and transport costs.
The alert came after it was reported that Putrajaya will slash cash aid for disadvantaged families under the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) next year, with the reduction offset by an increase in Rahmah Basic Contribution (Sara) grocery credits.

Political goodies are a clever illusion: they take money from your pocket via taxes and inflation, filter it through bureaucracy, and hand back restricted vouchers.
