It is with deep sadness that we note the passing of Prof John J. Sciarra, a visionary leader, compassionate mentor and outstanding figure in the global obstetrics and gynaecology community.
Prof Sciarra was not only a past president of FIGO (1991–1994), but a driving force that helped shape our mission and expand our reach during a pivotal time in the federation‘s history. He led the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics for over two decades, bringing critical research findings from all parts of the world to the global discussion – especially the voices from resource-poor countries.

The global fertility rate is dropping, with 93% of countries expected to dip below the levels necessary to keep populations from shrinking by 2100.
Researchers are raising the alarm, pointing to pollutants such as pesticides. ⤵️

Great talk on cardiovascular disease in older women by Angela Maas. The most important risk factor is blood pressure which is higher compared to men. Organ damage caused by hypertension is more in women than men. @iffsfertility

My talk today @iffsfertility was about my work on regulated and unregulated sperm donation. Did you know that some women look for a sperm donor online? And that no donation is anonymous because siblings and even donors may be found through ancestry testing. #donation
