This little prayer card to Our Lady of Coromoto, patroness of Venezuela, was in my late father’s wallet for years. I pray today, now that María Corina Machado is back in her homeland, for peace, justice, and reconciliation in Venezuela. 🇺🇸🙏🇻🇪

The conditions allowing for the safe return of Ms. Machado to Venezuela is the direct result of the U.S. supported reconciliation talks which has already seen hundreds of political prisoners freed and hundreds of political opposition figures return from exile.
The United States expects the freedoms of all sectors of Venezuelan politics to continue to be respected. Likewise, we expect all political actors to support these talks which represent the best chance Venezuela has had in thirty years to peacefully achieve not just a free and fair election but an enduring democracy.

MARACAIBO, Venezuela—Seeing Venezuela align with Trump after the overthrow of Nicolás Maduro, shrimp magnate José Enrique Rincón thought he could safely return home to reclaim the $700 million business the regime had seized. He was jailed instead. wsj.com/world/americas/venez…

The United States welcomes the conclusion of the latest round of Venezuela’s political reconciliation talks, which focused on expanding political freedom and participation. This Venezuelan-led process continues to strengthen democratic institutions, expand political freedoms, and lay the groundwork for free, fair, and credible elections.

Christopher Landau (@DeputySecState) has an important post today titled “A New Chapter of American Statecraft,” on the Substack of @StateDept. The subject is merit-based recruitment and fellowships for a new generation of Americans in the foreign service. Should be of great interest to students and young professionals. The link is below.

I’m excited to be heading to Paraguay and Argentina next week for discussions with political, security, and economic leaders about opportunities to deepen cooperation between our countries. In particular, we’ll be discussing with US businesses and investors how our capital and know-how can foster economic prosperity for them and for us.
And this trip will have deep personal resonance for me, as I grew up in Paraguay and attended the American School of Asunción for 5 years (1972-77) as the son of the US Ambassador. I’m grateful to @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio for this opportunity to advance our diplomatic objectives in a part of the world that’s part of the fabric of my own life. 🇺🇸🇵🇾🇦🇷

We support the Venezuelan-led reconciliation talks 100%; talks that are producing tangible progress towards a democratic transition.
OFAC extended the earthquake relief license (now GL 60A) through 4/21/27 and clarified in FAQ 1263 that payments under the oil and minerals licenses must still be paid into the FGDF. Hence, the Government of Venezuela cannot directly receive those revenues for earthquake relief.
