the reality is, fanfic is using other peoples IP to make something fun. You can't really claim ownership for fanfiction. The harsh reality is, an author or copyright holder can easily one day say "I dont want fanfic done about my ip" and then A03 could remove it by force

I find it quite ironic how many AO3 authors I'm seeing who are mad about people downloading their work without their permission (from a site that explicitly allows it) while the entire point of said work is using someone else's characters, ideas, and IP without permission.
