"one thing i find funny is that workers are told to act more like businesses (the self-employment shpeil) but the moment we try providing as little as possible for as much revenue as possible we become bad workers" -- One of our new members.

One of the most important pieces of software. RT this; if you lose the use of your hands, it means the difference between being able to write code for a living or not.
I just released Talon v0.1, which brings scriptable speech control capable of programming, gaming, and general input for free to Windows, Linux, and Mac. Talon also has (hardware-assisted) eye tracking mouse, non-verbal noises to click, and much more. patreon.com/posts/talon-v0-1…

tech workers: pls contribute to this crowdsourced spreadsheet documenting employers' responses to Covid 19. we will help maximize the exposure of those companies that treat their workers with contempt, now, and for long after this crisis is over docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

Everyone working remotely: ZOOM monitors the activity on your computer and collects data on the programs running and captures which window you have focus on. If you manage the calls, you can monitor what programs users on the call are running as well. It's fucked up.

One of my most controversial software opinions is that your sleep quality and stress level matter far, far more than the languages you use or the practices you follow. Nothing else comes close: not type systems, not TDD, not formal methods, not ANYTHING. Allow me to explain why.

I know we're all new at this and learning but DO. NOT. think that networking is "let me ask you what you do professionally and then gauge how interested I am in you" or "let me talk at you about my success"
