Kashmiri Pandits played a significant role in the forced labour campaign against Kashmiri Muslims. Under the Begār system, Pandits enjoyed an exemption from forced labour while simultaneously acting as the apparatus that channelled and profited from it.

If she actually really cared about his opinions, she would know that he always talked about unity among the marginalised. You see-liberal feminists like Ruchika would always want to capture discourse. You would never see her amplifying Dalit and Muslim women voices but cry-
Ironically for all the support that Sharjeel has for his brand of religious supremacism, it is because of religious supremacism that he's unjustly incarcerated, albeit a different brand. Just goes on to show how dangerous religious supremacism is, it has no place for minorities, women and the caste marginalised. All brands of religious supremacism must be condemned unequivocally!

I'm not a big fan of reading Substack articles, but @revgirlisha has written an eloquent critique of the Indian Constitution. Do read.

I find the argument in support of Sharjeel, that even if he's wrong, he deserves a fair trial, very obnoxious. He is correct in his critique of the Constitution, which enables Hindutva terrorism. Quoting Quranic verses doesn't make him a religious supremacist.

I grew up reading Khaled Hosseini's books, and at times I cried over Maryam and Laila, and Amir and Hassan. But everything has changed since I realised he's America's favourite Afghan.

The mantra of a capitalist, colonialist state is: "We will develop you, with or without your consent."
🎥 | The peaceful protest during the 12-hour Siang Valley bandh turned violent in Pasighat, East Siang after CRPF personnels allegedly fired tear gas shells suddenly at youths who were protesting peacefully against the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). As per sources, the situation escalated after the tear gas firing, with angry protesters allegedly burning down 7 police vehicles. The NHPC office at High Region in Pasighat was also reportedly set ablaze. A cameraperson from Global Network News was injured after a tear gas shell landed near his leg during coverage. The bandh was called by Adi Bane Kebang-United and allied organisations demanding release of detained protesters, withdrawal of security forces and suspension of PFR survey. Situation remains tense at Pasighat, official confirmation awaited.

Everything Sharjeel said about the liberals has turned out to be true. Dr Ruchika falls on the same spectrum. I don't think she's Islamophobic in the strict sense, but she surely doesn't want to change the status quo since she benefits from it as a caste-privileged Hindu.
Dr Ruchika is worried of Islam when Muslims are being killed in daylight just for their identity .Denouncing Muslims who are believer in the abstract just because they quoted quranic verses while Hindutva fascists are genociding Muslims is not secularism .It is objectively aiding the enemy. This is the same error the "new atheists" made when they provided ideological cover for the "war on terror."

Terrible person to bring to the debate. Maulana Aazad was a strong proponent of secularism and unlike Sharjeel did not believe liberation can only come with ahl e kitab. Azad was also fairly critical of Islam and did not regard it as some pure, blemish free entity that Sharjeel regards it. Sharjeel's idea of Islam is a Hindutvawadi's idea of Hinduism.
