In the 1950s, Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play Hollywood's most popular nightclub, Mocambo, because of her race.
Marilyn Monroe, who was a big fan, called the owner & told him that if he booked Ella, Marilyn would be there every night - which guaranteed huge press coverage.
He booked Ella and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. Ella said, "After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - a little ahead of her times. And she didn't know it."

When Dolly Parton approached Robert Plant for permission to record her version of “Stairway to Heaven,” she reportedly worried about how he would react. Instead, Plant’s response was wonderfully simple: “Of course you can, you’re Dolly Parton.”
And somehow, that feels like the perfect answer. Dolly didn’t try to copy Led Zeppelin — she took one of rock’s most iconic songs and made it unmistakably her own, adding a touch of country, gospel, and her unmistakable voice.
Sometimes, a legend recognizing another legend is all the permission you need.

they could've atleast given her "wouldn't it be loverly" 😭 her voice added sm character to eliza, who at this point of the film, is still an impoverished flower girl whereas marni's vocals (beautiful as they are) feel too polished for that particular number

The emerald-green dress which Keira Knightley wore in "Atonement" (2007) was named as "greatest film costume ever" by InStyle Magazine. Joe Wright had asked costume designer Jacqueline Durran to create a “memorable” dress for the library scene.
According to Wright, Durran deliberately kept the seam down the middle of the skirt open, which would normally be sewn shut in a dress design for "easy access" in this scene. Durran said, "Wright knew that he wanted movement in the skirt. He liked the idea of it being bare-backed. But really, apart from that, there was very little instruction—direct instruction—from him about what the dress should be like. He wanted it as showstopping as we could make it, and that it should be green"
Rather than just making 1 green dress, the costume team actually produced multiple versions of the dress due to its fragility—with Knightley auctioning off the one from her collection for charity in 2009. It went under the hammer for $35,000, with an LA Times article at the time noting that “someday the dress could be right up there” with Audrey Hepburn’s costume in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961) , or Marilyn Monroe’s white halterneck dress in "The Seven Year Itch" (1955).
