We’ve lost an icon. Margaret Hamilton, a computer science pioneer best known for her work at MIT leading development of the flight software for the Apollo missions to the moon, has died at 90. Read about her legacy via MIT News: news.mit.edu/2026/margaret-h…

The title card for 2001: A Space Odyssey uses a version of the Gill Sans font.... except that for the zeros they used the letter O. So the title actually reads: Two Oooh One A Space Odyssey

This is also what it looks like a few hours before Jupiter collapses in on itself and ignites.
Earth is ready for a solar eclipse on Aug. 12th (stream it live at nasa.gov/live). Other planets have eclipses, too! This view came from our Juno spacecraft at Jupiter in 2019. If you looked up from within this shadow cast by the moon Io you'd see a total solar eclipse.

No one who has witnessed totality thinks this man is overselling it.
EUROPE GANG – If you're deciding whether to drive to totality for Wednesday's eclipse, I IMPLORE YOU – DO IT. This difference between a 99.5% partial eclipse and totality is night and day – literally! There is a 10,000-fold dropoff in light as you enter totality. Only during totality can you remove your glasses and stare directly at the fully-blocked sun. That's the only time when humans can EVER directly observe the corona, or the sun's atmosphere. Totality is when you'll experience the 360º sunrise appearance, the sudden nightfall, the disoriented animals and the magic that accompanies totality. Shadow bands will be visible before and after totality. This is a life-changing, spiritual and scientific experience. PLEASE do not miss this incredible opportunity!

This is the IMAX console we have here. Very old, but very reliable. You can see Odyssey is over 250k frames which includes the Dune 3 prologue. This works out to over 11 miles of film at around 630lbs.
